    Interesting read. Do rod manufacturers now use water based coatings due to health and safety and reducing VOC's much like a lot of paints you buy now? Maybe if that's the case it allows easier penetration of moisture through the coating?

    Moisture impregnating into lacquer is a common issue on motor vehicles surprisingly. Try going over the rod with a hair dryer, I would suggest a heat gun as we do on motor body paint finishes but they need to be used carefully.

    In the interests of the forum I will be taking various heat producing machines to my Orvis Helios....if I don't report back I have no rod left
