I look at the forum every day if I can get on line. I don't always contribute. I only do that when I think I can add something of value to the conversation or I am feeling clever.
Personally I like the political threads as I find them amusing. I may occasionally add some smart ar5e remark but that is usually rare.
There are probably half a dozen people who are very active in these threads and they are always the same people.
They seem to hate each other at times and then kiss and make up until the next thread. It is wonderful entertainment.
For this reason I would like to see the political threads continuing.

I believe that all people have a right to their opinion. I hate it though when people become "missionaries". By that I mean that they try to covert you to their way of thinking. The same thing would happen if religion was discussed at any great length.

I don't think that banning people achieves much either.

So I'm putting it to the members - do you want to be able to discuss politics on this forum or not?

We are living in very divided times and we clearly have some very strong views on this forum. While there was some interesting and intelligent debate, the previous discussion threads turned into little more than slanging matches eventually, which led to all political topics being banned. We don't have the resources to deal with continual reported posts due to people feeling insulted. However, we are a forum of likeminded people who have in common a love for fly fishing - it is a shame to have to limit discussion topics.

So tell me what you want by voting in the poll.

Note: In the event of a close race (we've seen what happens with 52% vs. 48%) it will still be up to the moderating team to decide how to proceed. A result either way won't necessarily guarantee what we do, but we do want to know what the members think!

The poll will be open for two weeks.

If members want to talk politics, let them. What does it matter either way? While there is a need for moderation as to profanity etc, I think it can go to far sometimes, like here for eg.

People often say that religion has caused most wars and deaths than anything else. That of course is nonsense, politics has caused more wars, and far more deaths.

Since Marx and Engels published their manifesto there have been more people killed fighting for, and against, communism than in all the religious wars combined.

All the heated arguments we have on the forum won't make a blind bit of difference to politics, or change opinions. Politicians have their own agendas and as we've seen with the Brexit fiasco, they've no interest whatsoever with public opinion.

Political discussions should be kept OFF this fly fishing forum. It only causes I'll will.

To the editor: People with a political axe to grind can always look elsewhere and save you all the hassle.

I don't get that, I'll have a play with my settings.

I wonder how many politicians log into this website for inspiration & suggestions?
2019 & it will be time for a change.

    I voted No.
It's a fishing forum, not a political forum.
I just wonder if on political forums they have an off topic fly fishing thread ?, I doubt it.
It's a bun fight when people rant about politics and religion, it shouldn't have a place here, it's not consistent with the vibe of fly fishing in my opinion.
Also it's not hard to notice that the people who post prolifically off topic rarely post on topic !
Peace, tranquility and bankside banter about fishing, that's a flyfishing forum in my opinion and that's why I joined and that's what I would like to see it return to, it's been kidnapped by pseudo fisherman who consider themselves as intellectuals but are actually trolls of a more subtle kind.
    Let's talk about fishing, please.
Yes, I do heartily repent. I repent I had not done more mischief; and that we did not cut the throats of them that took us, and I am extremely sorry that you aren't hanged as well as we.
