I think we should all stop giving this pathetic man the attention he wants. I dont think i have seen him say a positive thing about fly fishing. sad sad man.
this sport struggles enough without people like him giving it bad press.

Im fed up of posting in these threads
It shouldnt be banned and it is a great method of fishing and is also a very enjoyable method of fishing. As paul said it is a technique that was designed to dead drift nymphs and in my opinion there is no better technique in doing that. This technique has caught me almost 30 fish so far this season and 2 of those fish have been foul hooked. I mean theres a genuine argument and then theres just stupidity and ingnorance.

watched a clip of your video paul about the NZ style and i like how you keep all your line off the water up to the klink. Ive took a few fish from fast water by using that technique. Thanks mate.

I think Ron can take that as a "No". I used to think he was serious at one time, but now I think he just trawls through the various posts etc on here looking for controversy. Some people of less than gentlemanly natures might call it "sh1t - stirring" but I couldn't possibly comment.

Likewise - had around 30 fish on it over 3 consecutive days last week on three different rivers - approx half to the dry, half to the nymph. Only one was foul hooked and that was a splashy riser to the dry - barbless hook so no problem. Also inspired by Mr Paul G's now famous video! Ron's right though, ban it, its obviously cheating, I'm certainly never going to fish that way again

There is defintely validity in fishing the point fly just a few inches behind the dry - for those occasions when the fish are pulled up by the dry but for whatever reason, don't quite commit. In this sense it works like a compressed version of the stillwater man's middle dropper five feet behind the attractor 'bob'.
The obsession with having the point fly a fairly rigid 2-4' behind the dry is a very British thing and typical of our limited ability for lateral thinking.

But banning it? Methinks Mr Clay is looking to 'stimulate a lively discussion' there!

I think Mr Clay should read this thread properly ........maybe 2 or 3 times ....then it may sink in what a boring tw*t he is.Fishing is under pressure at the best of times with out the contribution from Victor Meldrew. Go and crawl back under the stone you came from
