I'll be honest i think the long explanation/instruction goes into more detail and science than necessary. i've made a few perfectly usable shooting heads with old lines. Using old WF lines that match the weighting of the rod i chop the front end off about a third of the way down. Then get either cheap running line (as in the stuff that's finished similarly to a normal fly line), or a very low weight mill end line, such as a 3 and attatch the 2 with a couple of inches of braid. whip the ends don't put sleeve over them. they're very simple sort of 'botch jobs', but for occasional use they're cheap and simple. As i say they seem to cast fine (although i normally knock them up for mates as i don't like using them), although i know just about ****** all about the production process of fly lines, and will probably now be told so. I tried just attatching the shooting line to braided backing, but found it can really cut into your finger when playing fish, i prefer to use somethning with more of a finish. The person you want to be talking to about this is the pirate. I think he has some knowledge of the subject...

Missed by many!

Didn't 'M.C Hammer' flounce off - deleting most of his posts - about 18 months ago?

A tragic loss. Nice find diawl bach, a valuable guide.

Cheers LJ - MC generally employs the old "scorched earth" policy.

Not one to suffer fools gladly I think we could safely say.

Maybe you'd be the chap to explain the Mail's fascination with the whereabouts of Gordon Brown - it's all rather puzzling!

I really can't think why you'd think that?

However if you do know; just send a photo.

Have you seen this man? Gordon Brown does a disappearing act... | Mail Online

A nice bottle of shampoo did go to colleague Quentin Letts - as he found him first - but I'm sure we can find more.

He has still not been seen in the chamber of the Commons, though he has re-taken the oath to become an MP again, after losing the 6 May election, to what turned out to be the Lib-Con coalition.

MPs are conscious of his absence, while the media has begun to make inquiries and suggestions, some merely curious, others malicious. Is he really recuperating and enjoying quality time with the kids? Is he writing his memoirs to beat Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson to the publishers this autumn? Etc, etc. There are certainly some nasty suggestions circulating...

Only solid Clem Attlee, Sir Alec Douglas-Home and Jim Callaghan were never the object of this particular sort of "he's lost it" name-calling. Even John Major was accused of cracking up in a mean article in the Times, co-authored by a hack whose name temporarily escapes me.

So where is the ex-prime minister, I occasionally ask Labour MPs who were and remain friendly. They say he's fine and at home in North Queensferry, high above the Firth of Forth on the northern bank.

Whilst we can all understand why he might want to pause and reflect after 13 years in power and its abrupt end and to wish him no harm for it. I sense those friendly MPs are being a bit protective, not keen to say much, but if Brown were experiencing a dark night of the soul, it would not be surprising, would it?

All the same I think he's making a mistake by not showing his face in the Commons. Jack Straw and Alistair Darling, the only other cabinet members who did the whole 13-year stint, are back in their places, earning their corn by holding their successor ministers to account. Harriet Harman, who was also in office most of that time, is positively thriving as acting Labour leader.)

It's not as if MPs wouldn't be generous to GB if he turns up on the backbenches soon. They're always nice to the defeated. Labour MPs will feel sorry for him not very sorry in many cases, but a bit and the Lib-Cons can afford to be kind.
