I dont think anyone would doubt your integrity and trustworthyness to treasure this yourself, just do it. Or have the winning bid by cheque or postal order made out to Macmillans or Cancer research or whoever you choose the charity to be and then its clear where it's going .
Can I bid £25 for the first batch please while this is sorted out.
    Many thanks

Simply stunning generosity Pom, thankyou, sincerely.
I appreciate your kind comments, but I would prefer to keep the treasury side of this to a third party, and tigermoth Dave, has kindly offered to set up a "just giving" account, I can't think of a better qualified person for the job.
    Thanks for that Dave.
I will start the auction on the 2nd of January, it would have been the 1st, but I hope to be recovering from a headache that day.
And it will end in the December of the same year.
It was just going to be my leaders, but it seems to have taken off a bit since then, and it looks like a bit more than I was hoping for will be raised.
That is all down to some very generous and kind forum members, thanks to you all so far.

Good to hear it. And Tiger moth seems the ideal man what with his auction back ground.
Well you can start the bidding for whatever there is at £25. It's not generous at all... I know as well as you do that it will soon go past that!

I am off to bed now, but just to say a big thank you to all who have PM'd me tonight with donations and offers.
It's been mind blowing, such generosity and good feeling.
Ian Grommit has also offered a monthly donation along with Toby funkyflytying, so we will need to change the name of this auction as it is now far more than a few old furled leaders, Mrs T suggested (Let's TACKLE cancer)
Quite good I think, whatever, as long as we make some cash for a good cause we can call it what you like.
Thanks again everyone, and good night.

    Hi,

I write reports for Kilnsey everytime I go and I always take mate's there for days out so they can develop their skills (see post in general fly fishing) I can have a word with the fishery manager about having a charity day if you want with a some daft rules?

It would be a group event and see if they would lend us the venue for a reduced ticket fee just for one day. There are plenty of lads on here and that I know that would join in so the ticket price would cover the cost of the fishing plus a donation.

We could get sponsored per fish caught or something.

    The rules could be:

Everyone gets 5 of the same patterns. No other patterns to be used. You can adapt the fly but nothing must be added.

Use any fly you want but you can not have a leader over 6ft and you can only have one leader for the duration of the day regardless if you get in a big knot or tangle.

You have to sing a song whilst playing a fish loud enough so that every other fisherman can hear you.

Just daft stuff like that for a laugh and something different.

I could probably get buyers for the two fish limit each as well with the proceeds for that going into the pot or just have it as C&R. Might even be able to get the big company I work for to make a donation say £1 for every 1lb of fish we catch.

I am thinking as I go along but something could be sorted. I'll see what the big cheeses have to say about sponsoring us now.

Just a quick update on this thread.
Since putting it up last night, I have been bombarded with PM's from the most kind and generous people I have ever known.
Toby (funkyflytying) has offered to donate two of his special Pike leaders per month, and Ian, (Grommit) has donated a Greys Platinum fly line also one each month.
Apart from these, several kind folks have come up with stunning ideas to make this a great success, hutch6 enigma309 silversedge Munro, reidy, repairman Tigermoth, and SKB to name a few.
As my futile attempt to raise a few quid from offering a packet of furled leaders has been overtaken in such a grand manner, it is only right to rename this thread to include everyone, and as such I have decided to call it,
"Let's TACKLE cancer" I hope that meets with your approval, and I thank you all very sincerely for your input and help to date.
I will update you on things as they progress, and all being well it will kick off in January 2011.
    Kind regards Steven.
