Default Hello from Sunny Birmingham

Good evening everyone

After a 30 plus year absence from any form of fishing. I've decided to pack away the shotguns and return to a more sedate past time. I've booked a lesson for the weekend and hopefully the memory won't fail me and I can pick up where I left off..
I know its a personal choice but does anyone have any pointers for a starter rod my last rod was a daiwa brook rod, lost in the mists of time.. My local shop has a selection of Greys rods.

Thanks again

Mark

Welcome to the forum Mark, Perhaps if you have a chat firstly with your instructor over the weekend during your lesson, he might give you some idea of "which" rod you'll find yourself comfortable with. Good luck & tight lines.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum.

I have a Greys gr50 #5 and I'm impressed with it but I would try out other rods if you can then you can make up your own mind on what's best for you.
I was lucky to be able to fish with friends rods and I liked the Greys gr50 the best out of a good selection. I also liked the orvis Clearwater and that comes with a good warranty.

Welcome Mark,

what type of water will you be fishing?

Greys are a good reliable make and not too expensive.

As above explain to your instructor what type of waters you will be fishing and he/she will be able to point you in the right direction.

Enjoy

welcome! shouldn't worry too much about the first rod - in a couple of years you'll probably have at least half a dozen...
