    Role of the Wrist

We did discuss it and the main problem seemed to be getting his head round the idea of the stop. Both golf and cricket have a follow-through action so the concept of stoping the 'club' or 'bat' was alien to him. We got there eventually though.

A lot of guff but still no answer to the simple question of define 'optimum loading'?

    Understanding Carbon Trout Rods

Tangled, you keep trotting out the term 'optimal loading' but have not been able to actually define what you mean by it. So I think it's a fair question and would probably help this discussion along if you answered it.

    Wanna be a fishing guide?

From my perspective, and I've said this before, I'm not worried about this creating increased competition etc. and don't feel at all threatened by it. The issue I have is the inference that you can become a fishing guide after a weeks course. It is after all being sold as a Guide course and not...

    Understanding Carbon Trout Rods

Thing is Tangled, continually asking questions like this just serves to demonstrate your fundamental misunderstanding in this whole subject. So... Firstly, this rod could be loaded to any amount of flex with any amount of line outside the rod tip. Loading is dependant on power input from the...

    Role of the Wrist

I have a client who I've now taken out a few times who is an ex 1st Class cricketer and a scratch golfer. You'd of thought he'd have picked fly-casting up easily... nope!

    Role of the Wrist

That's very interesting, I believe that kinaesthetic learners make up a very small proportion of people but maybe as you say they are the ones drawn fly fishing. I supposes that by default most fly casting tuition is kinaesthetic.

    Role of the Wrist

Analogies work well for some, not as well for other. It's not that they don't understand them, it's just that they can't relate them to actual casting. A lot depends if they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. Half the challenge is working out which one they are, it obviously gets...

    Wanna be a fishing guide?

Just to take your analogy a bit further... maybe consider it as going from learner driver to driving instructor in a week...

Tungsten flies when heavy out fishes light?

I've seen grayling take a dropper fly when the point has been snagged and I've been trying to free it. No 'dead drift' just a fly fluttering fixed in the current.

    Wanna be a fishing guide?

As I've said before, it's a free and unregulated market. FB charges the maximum it's thinks people will pay and pays the guides the minimum they think they can get away with... a fairly strong capitalist business model. I do feel that the 'request' to tip is a bit of a 'stealth-tax' but if it...

When I do bring in my own evidence in the form of personal experience... you summarily dismiss it.
