    Small streams thread?

I had a very enjoyable evening yesterday. A small hatch had started but the fish did not show up on top. I fished a #6 muddler type fly and got two very nice fish from a small steam I have pictured here.

Suggestions for fishing this type H2O

I couldn't stop myself this morning. I purchased a 9ft. #8 rod for the heavy work. It is a top line Lamaglass rod. It is a 2 piece rod just what I wanted! https://www.lamiglas.com/collections/fly-rods I have a Hardy #8 salmon rod but I can't bring myself to abuse it down in this area. 2 piece...

I understand there are big fall fish and small mouth bass also. Well I ordered more foam and black rabbit strips. For all I know there are alligators also! Such a strange river the Otter Creek. The smaller tributaries seem like better places to use the fly rod. I'll check out the ants...

Suggestions for fishing this type H2O

First attempt with foam and rabbit strips. I am sort of a traditional material fly tier. This sort of thing is new to me. I'll catch on fast but I do feel dirty. : ) Thanks for the feed back and advice. It is nice to have other opinions. I spoke to my fishing buddy and he has never fished...

I will keep that in mind. There are pike inhere also especially Otter Creek! The entire area must be meat eaters. Given all the blow downs in this type H2O I will need to use a stout rod rod to muscle them. Didn't think of a level leader but with 10 lb. or 12 lb. Maxima Ultra Green it...

It is slow flowing even at the high level it is in the pictures. Further up it is a bit faster. But is is always difficult to approach. A friend and his buddy had a 20+ they could see and the fish was in position for a cast. One spotted as thee other dropped far down stream to make the cast...

I tied one up already. Not in black as I didn't have black rabbit strips but I will shortly! Got to watch the thickness of the foam and tension on the thread as you can cut through the foam. Thanks!

Terry, Thank you. I will check this out. Did you ever spend time fishing Otter Creek and its tributaries when you were here? Check out the brown trout pics on the this site. P.S. Checked it out and YES! It may well be better than the other mouse fly I was think of. I got the foam and...

Suggestions for fishing this type H2O

Interesting thought. Thank you. My suspicion is that this H2O may not have much in the way of hatches. At this time the H2O is quite deep and at the log jam it is 8 ft deep or more. The stream continues like this for perhaps two miles. When a fish moves out of the undercuts and log jams it...

Night Fishing - is it allowed? Angling Trust Update

No! Don't let that happen again! Here I stay out of the H2O and fish from shore as after dark the trout move in to the shore line pockets where the hatch tends to gather. I can then fish dry flies or wets on a floating line and hook quality fish just a few feet from the bank. Not every...

Suggestions for fishing this type H2O

There are a few streams that have very large brown trout in them here in Vermont. Three of them are associated as two are tributaries of the third larger stream. The tributaries have big fish in the lower sections within a mile of the mane river. All three are serpentine running through clay...

Night Fishing - is it allowed? Angling Trust Update

I really feel for you guys. It doesn't seem to end! How the heck is night fly fishing for sea trout a covid-19 spreading activity? Fishing sea trout as you do at night is something I would truly love to do. I fish at night for stream trout here all summer long. Fishing sea trout is on my...

    Small streams thread?

Went to see a friend today to pick up some supplies he had for me. I wanted to fish some H2O the Western side of the Green Mountains where he lives. It RAINED like cats and dogs all afternoon. ! nv er wet the line. I looked at several steams and did some recon. We have a major river here...
