    Compo 69 fly reel

Thanks. I’m missing the o-ring; I assumed it goes between the nut and the tapered washer but from what you say it should fit at bottom of the three, underneath the other two. Thanks again

    Compo 69 fly reel

Hello I’ve just been given a secondhand compo 69 but the spool doesn’t click onto the spindle, it just slides and off. Will new o-ring seals fix that? I see they are available on eBay. Thanks Ollie The Rev Oliver Harrison

Brown and Sea Trout fishing in South Devon (Avon & Kingsbridge)

Hi All I'm off to South Devon in a couple of weeks, staying at the Thurlestone Hotel. I can see that the river Avon and its estuary are just north of there while Kingsbridge is just south. Seems to be a lot of streams around that area too. Any tips? What flies work well? Are day tickets...

Trying the canals for pike on the fly with stillwater lures

Hello All My usual venue (small stocked lake) is out of bounds at the moment due to You Know What. I'm thing of having a go the canals for pike on the fly. I don't mind buying special flies but in the meantime I'm wondering if stillwater lures would work. A cats whisker or similar, with or...

    Bead-headed nymphs banging against rods

× Thanks that was really good. I'd liked to have known more about his rod and tippet but I see how it works now: a "flip" cast. It seems that this style of fishing is really only for shortish range though? Also, without the weight of a fly line would it turn over a single dry?

    Bead-headed nymphs banging against rods

Just looked at some video tutorials. So basically the very long, tapered leader acts kind of like a fly line but also kind of not. You need a super long and light rod (max #3 weight, min 10'). The you start as if roll casting off the water using its friction as traction to give resistance and...

    Bead-headed nymphs banging against rods

Thanks. Is the the French / Czech style? I must say that confuses me, they don't seem to aerialise any fly line, why not just use a fixed spool reel and cast as if bait / spinner?

    Bead-headed nymphs banging against rods

That's given me an idea: two layers of bubble wrap around the rod! Nice. I'm gonna try that and get back to you.

    Day Tickets on Devon Avon

Hi All Forthcoming trip down Loddiswell way. Not till next year but planning ahead and looking to get some fishing in. Seems like there's a good head of trout and sea trout. Does anyone do day tickets or passports? I found this, but was wondering about my options. THANKS...

    Bead-headed nymphs banging against rods

When casting bead-headed nymphs they sometimes bang against the rod. A carbon blank will only take so many dings and pings; each one weakens it until eventually it snaps. (Before you ask about my technique: yes, some of these are my fault, but others are caused by the wind of a mid-cast change...
