Wild Trout and Grayling fishing 2021.

I was tempted for sure! I’m just back from three weeks of annual leave though so I felt like I’d be taking the piss! 😂

A short session before work produced this three pounder, happy boy for the rest of the day!

A streamer in the deeper pools might bring a decent brown out from its hidey hole. Nice fish nonetheless!

    Float Tube with Oars

My mate has the guideline drifter with oars and reckons they’re just another thing to get line caught on, as for propelling myself, I’ve been finding the dive boots and Apeks RK3 fins excellent.

    Fishing around Birmingham

A few rivers run through Brum and the surrounding area and some have decent trout in them. I’ve fancied trying them but haven’t got around to it yet.

    Vision scout 2.0 waders

I had the original Scouts and they were solid, changed to Koski Zips and they’re a bit leaky already. Might try Patagonia next time around.

Wild Trout and Grayling fishing 2021.

A few from that last two evenings, five days of long shifts now so happy to finish on a high for the week! Had a hell of a lot of fish over a pound, the blue winged olives are starting to appear now so the evening fishing will get better and better. The next two months are the creme for me!

River Rod - What would you recommend?

What do you think of the Ti5? I’m tempted by one for loch fishing.

    Your opinions on this?

It’s criminal what’s happening up the West. Lough Carra holds a special place for me and many anglers, there’s just nothing like it and they’ve managed to **** it up beyond belief. All due to greed, there should be half mile buffer zones around those loughs protecting them from agricultural run off.

River Rod - What would you recommend?

I think he wanted to refine the butt section a little when I last spoke to him but he said the action is squarely between the 8’ and 9’ P4 so it should be a perfect dry fly rod. I sent a radian off for work lately too and they decided to give me credit rather than repair so I may try the new...

    Your opinions on this?

Sadly Cressbrook and Ashford Hall stock like mad, I had one last week that must have been around 7-8lbs. Wild trout shouldn’t have to compete with such enormous fish! You can imagine my disappointment when I got the first glimpse of it. I believe Cressbrook have cut back though which is a start...

If it’s the stream I think it is then it definitely has a head of very good brownies year round. It’s a fishing paradise where Steven is and it doesn’t cost the Earth like it does down here. You also have the Clyde and Annan not much more than an hour away.

    Your opinions on this?

The Lathkill is a stunning river for sight fishing brownies but as a river it’s been manipulated by humans a hell of a lot, Philip White the ex keeper said it’s pretty much entirely artificial in spite of all the fish being wild. I’ve had some crackers from there though. The biggest below at...
