    Are Rio having a laugh?

Scott 100% roll their own blanks. Same as Sage, Winston, T&T, Burkheimer who also rolls Tom Morgan blanks, Mike McFarland etc. I can’t see Maxcatch/Leichi being a supplier of the raw materials either but who knows.

    Are Rio having a laugh?

I’d like to know what they supply Scott with. As far as I know all of their rods have been made in America since their inception. Maybe it’s the caps, rod bags, etc?

    Are Rio having a laugh?

I think people a baulking at the price of the Rio line rather than the brand itself so Arawa is just saying there are people out there who enjoy using nice tackle, the SA line he is using is the same price as the Rio too so it’s pretty relevant. I wouldn’t criticise or call someone cheap for...

They do a couple of 40+ lines at £70 as part of their Superflo range but they were released before the acquisition. Most of their lines are under £50 still.

    Vision Waders?

Give Stuart at Fly Only a ring Steven and say I recommended him, he’ll look after you. Koski zips will be my next pair too. The Musta boots are very robust too.

I’m sure Mayfly will plough a fair few quid into Airflo as they have done with Abel and Ross. Prices might increase but the quality will too. They’re also setting up an Abel/Ross service centre here. Happy days as when my nippers need jaws they’ll be off to Wales and not Co.

    Are Rio having a laugh?

I know that, Mayfly are obviously paying the wages of the local lads that work for Airflo. It can only be a good thing in my book as Mayfly will take them to new heights.

    Are Rio having a laugh?

× I can see your point with Hardy, I begrudgingly bought their smuggler (great rod) as it was the best on the market and I can’t find one western company that makes one. I’m tempted to order one from Mike McFarland. Apparently the workers rights are miles better in South Korea though as well as...

    Are Rio having a laugh?

For me it’s a personal choice. I’m happy to pay for a line not made in a third world country or by someone earning a £1 a day. Rio, SA, Sage etc will be paying workers a fair salary with a pension plan and possibly healthcare. I’d sooner see it in their pockets than another faceless Chinese...

    Reel Lube.

× × I can’t see any on my SDF or animas but it’s on all the pawls of my TR’s and Ross Colorado’s. I don’t grease any of my disc drag reels.

    Fly Only.

I was on the phone to Stewart yesterday, he answered within the first few rings so I’m surprised your calls have gone unanswered. I’m sure he’d make things right if you try to call him again, he’s back up and running properly now.

    Fly Only.

Will also add here that just before lockdown Stuart had to move to a new premises so not ideal doing that and keeping track of orders. People don’t understand that shops that size can’t afford to have the full range of rods & reels etc but if you want something he’ll order it for you. Doubt...

    Matchcatch

× × Yeah it’s been doing that to me for a few weeks now. A bit annoying, sometimes I delete them first only for one to appear in my reply anyway.

    Reel Lube.

Mobil XHP 222. It’s marine grease and if it’s good enough for Abel and Ross then it’s good enough for any reel!

    Ultimate glass outfit

Nothing too dangerous in Madeira, some big spiders but nothing dangerous and all the tarantula species are on the surrounding islands. Loads of lizards but didn’t see any snakes. The climate on the north of the island is very different to the south, the day we fished that stream it felt like we...
