Default MRA Auction XI Lot 12: A day Trotting for Grayling on the Monnow

    LOT 12

A day with StJohn Milinczuk, catching trout on selected bits of the Monnow.
Despite his weakness for wooden rods, StJohn is an enthusiastic guide who spends more time than he should on the river and is beginning to know it better than most!

The old offer which didn't see to interest anyone!
A winter’s day trotting for grayling on the Lower Monnow, guided by StJohn Milinczuk.
Probably using a cane rod, StJohn will provide expert and good-humoured advice on this dark art.
Equipment, maggots, good company, an optimistic attitude and some lunch will also be provided.

    Kindly donated by StJohn Milinczuk

Trout fishermen revere the trout; trout, on the other hand, unaware of their sublime standing in man's world, revere nothing, including man, a creature they seem to view with special contempt. Nihilism is a rare trait in fish but trout are full of it. The old men liked that.

I am delighted that all of you share my aversions.

    a) Grayling are vermin!
    b) Subsurface fishing, especially with bait, has no place on my river!!

This lot has therefore been changed to something much more palatable.

You can now feel free to bid.

Patrick, some people don't know what they're missing as trotting with an angler who knows what he's doing would open up a lot of peoples eyes as there's not a lot better on a frosty morning watching a float top trundle down the river and then disappear hearing the parumph of the float against the water as you set the hook and the rod tip hoops over with a fish kicking on the other end.

If I hadn't done it thousands of times I'd have bid however as it is £40 from me for a days trout fishing to kick it off

    Good man!
Sorry to hear of your afflictions.
You'll enjoy the day even more chasing proper quarry on the surface!

Patrick, it's not an affliction, merely a thirst for knowledge, understanding and perfection in all things angling related. If I live to 100 I'll still have an awful lot to learn and will curse those opportunities I should have taken that I didn't
