Default Honda Trail 70 Monkey Bike.

Decided to sell my Honda Monkey bike, imported myself from sunny California back in 2010. Believed to be a 1969/70 model. It's had a new piston and head rebuild with a new carb and was running fine a few years ago, but I've not started it late

Yes you can, I bought an unregistered trials bike and registered it straight away as I did plan to use is on the road occasionally, haven't got around to MOT yet. Once registered you need to SORN it.

Not to my knowledge , I've imported over 100 vehicles from the USA and never registered one before mot and insured, maybe different for motorbikes?

Your insurance will be invalid without registration, unless you specify it as such and transport to MOT station, don't ride or you are committing an offence riding an unregistered vehicle on the public highway. Make sure you have all relevant paperwork, vehicle and import documents, import tax receipts(if relevant) and shipping details when registering. It gets a bit complicated as you need an MOT to register but it needs to be registered for the mot to be legal as they can't mot a vehicle for road use without number plates. Explain on registering that it has not been used on the road(in this country) but may be after an mot. If it is an import it may need to be assessed for conformity. Pain in the proverbial I know but taking the trouble to do it properly can save a big fine.

Like I said ,I know a bit about importing and registering vehicles, you can insure on a chassis number temporarily.
