    Default RWC 2019 Thread

    Someone had to start one.

Matches - Rugby World Cup 2019|rugbyworldcup.com

I'm getting excited now. New Zealand are odds on favourites as usual. Personally I want anyone but NZ to make it more interesting and preferably a Northern Hemisphere team to win it. Hopefully England but I know that's a very long shot.

So who's going all the way to the final - what say you?

Can't see beyond the usual suspects. Interesting first up match between SA and NZ. I too don't want to see NZ win. SA are improving and are always capable, but I don't see that Australia are ready for this one. I also don't think Wales and Ireland are capable of going all the way and their squads are not as deep as they like to think. Although GS champions, Wales played inconsistent rugby in that tournament and have looked uncreative. Defence alone won't be enough in Japan.

The English squad is strong enough to win, but do they know their best team? I'm not convinced by too many of Jone's selections. I do think they have the best chance of the NH teams. I fancy the home team might cause an upset in the pool games.

    Can’t wait
If England’s forwards fire up they’ll be challenging for anyone..
I know NZ may not be the very best version at the moment, but they have an inner belief from winning so many games... as always it’s hard to look past them, any team that beats them once the knockout stages are reached will win the WC

I think that NZ are vulnerable, SA are much improved and would be my bet were I to place one. I'd love Wales to win but I'm not sure we're strong enough to get past the semi finals. England look strong on paper but they are weak in the head and this will let them down.
“There is no more lovely country than Monmouthshire in early spring. Nowhere do the larks sing quite so passionately, as if somehow inspired by the Welsh themselves. There is a blackbird on every thorn and a cock chaffinch, a twink as they call him there, on every bush...... It moved me profoundly. I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

    Hee hee! Love it!
    You're not wrong.

England have the squad but not the coach or captain. Wales have the coach and captain but not the squad (but I still fancy them as NH choice).
Ireland similar to Wales but they peaked a year or so ago and are struggling to get back up there. Scotland can beat anyone, but anyone can beat them; so inconsistent. France? Who knows? Fiji will cause problems but don't have a set piece for Test rugby. Argentina looked pretty good in the SH comp and usually go well at RWC's.
I think SA meet NZ both in the group and later on if/when they get through. Anyone looked at permutations? So SA or NZ v Wales or England in the Final IF that can happen!!!

Edit; don't think the above can happen. Whoever of the NH sides get through the groups, they have to contend with NZ or SA on the way, be it 1/4's, Semis or Final.

And what the f... has Rob Howley been up too? I hope he's not been silly; seems too good a fella to have things unravel now.

Just been reading about Gareth Thomas and the fact he has HIV.
A great player, a great bloke and one tough, strong fella, he's never going to roll over. It would appear things are under control and he can live a full healthy life with medication and he's evidently as fit as a butcher's dog; great news.
I'm sure the World of Rugby will want to wish him well; I certainly do.

3 great games today; I won't mention results, but loads of brilliant rugby.

I've watched all the games so far and there hasn't been a bad one. Looking forward to tomorrow's!

Half way through the Ireland v Scotland game and the Scots don't look at the races. So many mistakes, kicking the ball away too much and I may be wrong but they don't look fit enough? Even the weather is suiting the Irish too.

I was a bit generous to the Scotland above - they are really poor today. Ireland are looking pretty good.
