Cheers, Andy. I'm surprised you've never done it. I wouldn't mind doing it again in decent weather. Nightmare, trying to get quality shots at 560 mm/f8/reasonable ISO/8:00 p.m., when the boat is going up and down like the old Tommy Cooper sketch!

So, they didn't even go down to the scheduled visit to Inchkeith - just hung around the bridges and went to Inchcolm, Inchmickery and some of the other small ones. Tricky doing decent photography with fading light and needing a fast shutter to combat the boat rocking and rolling the whole time. However, quite a bit of wildlife to see - effectively on my own doorstep.

Aye that's the thing, can go out in a big wave on a loch, but on the sea is a different thing, head overboard..

    Ahah!

I didn't see anyone with head over the side. Although it was rough (spray coming flying in over the side when going across the wave stuff), I don't think the cadence/frequency of the wave was right for causing seasickness that far up the estuary. If it had been coming in from the east, maybe...

Anyway, you'll know what you can tolerate and what you can't.

There was one time 12 of us were coming back from South Uist on the evening crossing. It was a right rough one. Of course we were wanting our tea, and as soon as we set-sail from Lochboisdale, we headed for the restaurant. One of the guys, who was new to the party that year, ordered the 'curry of the day'. He sat down with it, he took a forkful of rice and mixed it into the sauce. He put the fork down, got up and headed for the bogs. And that was the last we saw of him for the 5 hours it took to get to Oban. They took the chips off the menu so they could put the lid on the deep fat fryer as a precaution. We were sitting at the tables, eating with one hand, while stopping the plates from sliding off with the other hand. All good fun if you don't suffer from seasickness!

After Col's (Cap'n Fishy) post earlier on his trip from Port Edgar, with the Tern nesting platform, got me wondering how close could I get to get a few decent shots,

so took a trip over today but never had to go far as they were feeding not far from the car parking area, not an easy subject to lock focus on when they are flying and diving taking back fish to the chicks,

but just kept at it hoping to get a few decent images, couple from today.

Well done, Andy - those were the shots I was trying (and failing) to get when I was out.
