    Default Lest we forget

A poignant display at Alnwick Garden in Northumberland. Truly humbling.

Very sad for those brave young lads who gave so much , it brings tears to my eyes , we should remember the fallen . There as been some good programmes on TV this week to remember the brave soldiers from World War 1 , including the very brave Scots , Canadian and Aussie regiments . I think it was the battle of Amiens .

My wife and I go to Belfore in the East of France each all saints Day to visit her father's tomb, I always take a few branches from his Olive tree to lay on it as he's a long way from his olives and the sunshine now, it's cold up there. Anyway, the first year I left my wife alone with her Dad for a while and took a wander in the military cemetery next door, it's only small but very well kept and all the young lads fell in the first war. It's a mixed bag of lads, Christians, Muslims and Jews, from all over the world, all very young. I found one lone Scottish lad, 18 when he fell and never got taken home, it seems so lonely and sad. I always lay an Olive branch for him now as well.
I can't imagine sending my son off to that now, I hope i never have to go through that.
    No, we mustn't forget.
Yes, I do heartily repent. I repent I had not done more mischief; and that we did not cut the throats of them that took us, and I am extremely sorry that you aren't hanged as well as we.
