I have just had some bad news from my good friend John Aplin that unforeseen family circumstances means he will have to miss the weekend.
I know John will be gutted and had looked forward to the social but family first.
I am all packed ready for an early start tomorrow and will probably stop and have a few hours on the Honddu on route.
    Seen anything rise?

Jon an excellent read. I'm sat at home, having just finished sorting the car out, (camping gear, fishing gear, food I didn't need, rubbish and everything else and then I had to get it ready for its MOT and drop it off at the garage).

I'm only just starting to feel myself again as my body feels like it's been though some kind of event that has tested my endurance to the limit. Before anybody starts thinking you need to get fit, let me tell you the Social can test you to the limit, particularly if you're daft enough to stay up drinking Whisky with Patrick and Co until most have gone and then get up a few hours later to fish. I won't mention the trek Iain Mortimer took me on when we lost his car but we walked a lot further than we needed to, mainly in the wrong direction

I haven't laughed so much for years and the banter and camaraderie is something to behold, particularly the legendary auction which some would buy tickets to watch, not that I'm wanting to give Rob or Patrick any ideas of how to generate more cash. It was just brilliant with people buying all sorts they didn't want or need but it all goes to a good cause. Rob Denny and Patrick were brilliant so funny people were almost in tears.

As for the fishing, well it was challenging. I struggled throughout, possibly due to my vision not clearing until after mid day, (might have had something to do with what we drank), but excuses apart it was a weekend not to be missed.

Being new to the Social you do have certain reservations however there was nothing to worry about as everybody just wants to have a good time and help each other out.

It was great. I have put an extended account of my weekend on FB however unless you've been there and done it, it's hard to describe however the fact that most many are already looking forward to next years social says it all.

My thanks to Patrick, Rob, Neil and Co for organising it and everybody else who made it what it was.

Wren, despite not actually being there, you once again managed not to ruin the Social. There even seemed to be enough to drink.
We missed you - come back soon. In the meantime check out the MRA group on the Visage Livre thingy.
Trout fishermen revere the trout; trout, on the other hand, unaware of their sublime standing in man's world, revere nothing, including man, a creature they seem to view with special contempt. Nihilism is a rare trait in fish but trout are full of it. The old men liked that.
