    Default Mottisfont Rectory Beat

Have a day coming up on the Rectory Beat and wondering how it is fishing at present. Any info would be very welcome, flies, hatches etc. Hawthorns and Iron Blues probably on the cards.

Lucky man... Never fished it, but looks stunning.

I'd probably just keep flies nice and simple, something along the lines of-
DHE, Grey Duster, Griffith Gnat, Hawthorn pattern.... I think they would cover most eventualities.... Perhaps a parachute Adams??
I've done 90% of my fishing with dries so far this season and out of that 90% with a DHE variant (tied with CDC rather than deer hair, size 14, 16 &18)) and it's worked a treat, less time wondering about which fly / changing flies and more time putting the fly in the right place... The trout don't seem to mind the resticted diet!

Sounds good, many thanks for the advice. Will be tying up a few tonight I think.
Just keeping an eye on the weather at the moment! Will post reply after the event.

Thumbs up Re: Mottisfont Rectory Beat

Mottisfont Rectory beat proved to be an absolute gem. Fished it early May, blustery but bright day. Lots of fish visible. Superbly maintained river, a credit to the keepers.
Successful flies Hawthorns, Iron Blue Duns, PT nymphs in deeper pools.
Well worth the travel and the cost, a tick on your bucket list!!

Unfortunately not! The photos on the website are really spot on though, although the river is better than it looks. Lovely little hut, tea and coffee, barbeque facilities. Fishing Breaks through Simon Cooper gave excellent information and directions. If you ever do get to go, Robjents Fishing shop ( and all other country / fishing stuff) in Stockbridge is a must visit. Top quality gear and very informative and helpful, good guys.
Am looking at when I can get my next visit in!

Robjents is a superb shop went in there last week to look at the RB1 reel By Reel Britannia. But they didn't have small size in stock great place, and the Mottisfont beat is beautiful, I fish a bit further up stream.
