    Default Does it really matter?

Following on from the recent 'Filling in a rough cork handle' post I too have a rod where most (if not all) of the filler has fallen out. Do I really need to fill the holes. Is it just cosmetic or is there a valid structural reason for applying more filler?
I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't.

There is always the danger that fissures, holes, and gaps can develop into bigger faults in the cork handle when the hand rubs against them. Small imperfections are acceptable but larger ones should be filled.
