A water seal inside the ferrule is indeed a sign of a better grade ferrule. Now, a little trivia for you. ........ In your case I would stay with the two wraps if only for authenticity.

about the 2 wraps
when the red ferrule wrap was removed, there was indeed a 'jump' wrap in green as used to bind the boo strips. I'll leave it in place.

Really was a great shop to go to. I used to get my Maggots there as a kid to fish the Wye when John Hatton was there. Later in life we used to go out the back of the shop on a Saturday and just chat and drink tea, proper old time shop. Moved away years later but was sorry to hear of it closing.
