Yes it has some good Coarse fishing available and the trout ticket can be good if you enjoy Tenkara for tiddlers

The salmon fishing comprises mostly average beats with poor records or like Wyesham very few day or season ticket opportunities available. Or like Courtfield, can be good early season but no tickets until 16th June. Depending on water heights and time of the year Goodrich Court is probably the best, exclusive, day ticket water that WUF have, averaging around 20 fish per season, it fishes 2 - 4 rods. In years of consistent high water the beats around Erwood can do well, Rectory etc.

Of course there is always a chance and you won't catch one unless you are fishing.

For coarse fishing consider joining a club like Monmouth & District AS where for the price of about 3 WUF day tickets you can have a full year's coarse (and trout) fishing on several miles of the lower Monnow, a couple of small stillwaters plus about 3 miles of the Wye at Monmouth (some only in the salmon close season) and this is some of the best coarse fishing on what is arguably the best coarse fishing river in the UK.

Out of interest, how does Goodrich Court compare to Upper Bigsweir and Cadora Backs, both of which are also available on WUF day tickets?

Perhaps you missed the words 'exclusive day ticket' Charlie? Also Upper Bigsweir average is 12. I don't know how the Cadora backs fishery works but it seems to be 1 rod plus guest salmon rod and guest coarse rod plus the Ghillie who catches most of the fish? How do you fish it Charlie?

I don't see the relevance of whether rods are let exclusively on day tickets, on a day-per-week basis or even by the full week. But I'm not interested in starting an argument or petty point scoring either, so can we leave that aside for now, unless you feel that it is in fact somehow useful or relevant - in which case do please explain?

I thought it might be helpful to draw attention to some other fisheries that are available on day tickets. And although the catch averages are readily available (though of course it's important to consider the number of rods, too), I wondered whether you might perhaps be able to give some further insights into the beats. How do they compare in terms of suitability for fly, for example?

There is no gillie on Cadora Backs. It's really only a one rod beat; although a second rod is permitted, they would need to understand that it doesn't claim to have enough water for two full rods. I use fly there so far as possible - in fact, I can't remember the last time I used any other method.

BTW, will WSA have rods available by the day in 2016, and can you provide details?

One relevance was that that is what i wrote. Another relevance is that the fish claimed to have been caught may not have accrued to true day ticket fishers if the beat is being fished for a percentage of the time by 'season' rods or syndicate members who may have been fishing the beat for many years. Surely you understand the relevance of that to the chances of an occasional day ticket fisher catching a fish?

Most of the fish at Cadora Backs are caught by a persistent day ticket fisher call MH from St Briavels (about 4 miles from Cadora Backs) he caught 23 of the fish, or maybe he was just reporting other peoples catches, well done to him must be a local.

What would be useful would be if WUF could reveal how many day tickets were let for each beat and how many salmon were caught by those day ticket fishers. They must have that information available.

WSA have never let day tickets although we have made free fishing available, on behalf of some owners, to encourage people back to fishing the wye.

As ever you are misinformed and wrong Commando1.

I've missed the personal attacks and jibes. Well done. Happy new year.

What have you done for the Wye since you were sacked by WUF C1?

..and I thought C1 was doing something more constructive with his time.

I can't say that I've missed his incisive and informative contributions and my heart sank when I saw that he was posting again and more so when I read a typically trivial post intended only to annoy, insult or start an argument.

I'm probably wasting my words but can't we have a New Year Resolution from you C1, to cut the usual nature of your posts and post something helpful or constructive or don't bother.
