Default Wye Discussion 2016

Welcome to this new thread for 2016, let's hope we see another 1,000 year or better still the 2,000 that would really signal that a recovery was a reality.

Great documentary on the Wye tonight starring Ray Mears.

Some of the information presented early on is a bit suspect to say the least, I wonder when it was made? Liming started in 2001 (did it?), 20 - 30 pairs of fish milling around in the Tarennig pool lol, electrofishing results lol, but back to reality as it will never be as good as it was in the 70's. When did Simon Evans start work with the WUF? Was it 2004?

I enjoyed the programme, nice to see George Woodward as well. The shots of wild boar wouldn't have been easy to get until after around 2008/9 when the population started to expand significantly so I guess the programme was shot fairly recently.

Brought back some happy memories of fishing under those noisy peregrines between the Tunnel Rock Pool and the Cherry Tree Crib. After telling then off one day, for trespassing and lighting fires, and when out of our sight, those naughty canoeists took their revenge. On our return we found my brand new white van covered in cow s----.

The bat piece at the Weir garden seems to have been shot in August 2014.

You sure it was Cow and not Bull Barbie?

Guy

Are you able to buy day tickets on these Wye stretches ? I'm hoping to try some river fishing this year and the Wye isn't too far from the midlands.

Thanks in advance

There are season and day tickets available on a lot of stretches depending on cost, favoured method, commitment etc.
