I was still fishing the beat around this time and it was sold by the holding company of Hardy's (possibly their pension fund) to a young chap who was being indulged by his wealthy older partner. I let my lease lapse around '91/92 so not sure what happened thereafter but i bet when it was sold on the price would have fallen substantially.

Martin's pool and the Bar used to hold a big head of fish which the poachers were well aware of. Just hated arriving on the beat to see the tell tale baling string still attached to the bankside tree roots where the nets had been suspended.

Just uncovered a paper by Bill Purvis in April 1997 detailing the tagging scheme in operation during 1996.

It had been intended to capture 40 MSW fish but only 12 fish were ever caught and tagged, 11 MSW and 1 grilse. All 12 fish were double tagged with both a "Floy" tag and an internal radio tag. Five were taken in May,4 in June and 3 in early July. Three fish were never recorded anywhere and were completely discounted ,leaving nine. Three died and one just disappeared leaving 5. Of these five four were considered to have spawned successfully and one disappeared off the radar in October and was thought to have been taken illegally.
And that was the end of that. 1996 was the last year of the NRA so perhaps the incoming E.A. decided not to continue.

I've also found mention of a scheme involving 21 fish in 1995 but can't find any details yet.

All fish for 1996 were caught on trebles evidently and although 4 {I think} were said to have some damage it was not considered to be serious enough to be long term.

You won't recognise me clinging on for dear life. Nigel is the one carrying about 80lbs of putcher caught severn salmon over his shoulders. If I remember correctly 16 in total off the tide that day.
