Default Quick question about lines

I'm heading to the Isle of Arran in the summer I'm going to bring my old greyflex 7/8 rod I'm going to but a cheap line so I I can cast a line in the sea. I've got a cheap shaky reel (plastic thing) I'll load the line on. I'm guessing a wf8 sinker would be best I'll be casting off the rocks with deep ish drop offs.
9ft leader?
I'm presuming from experience I'll be catching or trying to catch mackerel/pollock etc
I'm a right in thinking this should work the best or would a shooting head work better?

A shooting head or 40+ type sinker would be preferable if you have the ability to use it.and you can shorten your leader to 3-4'

I've never used a shooting head line before but I kind of get the gist. I imagine my presentation will be bad but that's not an issue really also I'll struggle to mend the line when casting. I won't be taking it too seriously just something to pass the time on hopefully a nice summers evening

A linekurv stripping basket is well worth the money if fishing off the rocks.

I was actually thinking of buying a washing up bowl and modifying it into a line basket
