Talking Edge of England: Huge fly-caught bass video

I've just finished editing a new short film which documents a few trips down to the Jurassic Coast this summer, including mate mate getting his PB bass from the beach - an 81 centimetre beast! So chuffed to have got it on film, I hope you all enjoy watching it!

Hope it inspires you to get down to the beach with the fly rod next year and have a cast for these beautiful creatures.

    Enjoy!

A double from shore on fly is a very rare fish indeed so great effort. That fish will be well over 12 years old.

But this guy isn't going to be very popular after posting videos on the net of it - these marks are closed guarded and it doesn't take much for them to be wiped out. Anyone who has done this for a while will have stories of this.

Lovely video to watch but I hope he doesn't regret posting it when he next fishes there and finds it"busy". I'm pretty sure I recognise the place and I live in the next county. I had a 11.5 lb bass from the shore some years back and sent some scales to Donovan Kelly for analysis. His reply gave the age of 22 years. This is calculated by reading the growth rings as you would on a tree. The larger the gap between the rings the better the feeding for that particular yearI don't know what an 85 cm bass would weigh but if over 10lb I would expect it to be closer to 20 years old.

My grandchildren have just moved to Portland so we have become regular visitors to that area. I have fly fished for bass with Justin Anwyl and Austen Goldsmith and loved it and this video is really inspiring.

I know marks are closely guarded but am I far away from this one in Portland?

No, you're not. Within an hour, anyway, driving. The walk from the car park will be longer!
