Default DIY Boca Paila - Mexico January 2019

I'm planning a DUY trip to Boca Pailia area in January next year. I've fishing in the Yucatan before (guided only from a lodge in Punta Allen) but never DIY so after some advice. I was thinking of hiring a guide for the first one or 2 days then go it alone after that.
Can anyone give me a good 'steers' please?

    Best Regards

Have you read the Rod Hamilton book(s)?

In the Yucatan book there's some good stuff on finding fish without a guide and I suspect the DIY book is also worth reading.

Thanks for this. I've ordered the book.

Trip is now booked, can anyone recommend a good guide? Looking to hire a guide for the for first 2 days or so.

    Cheers

I haven’t used this guide but he is based at Akamal About - Mexico Fly Fishing

    His name is Rhett Schober.
I have fished Tulum diy and hired a car to fish boca paila - caught lots bones plus permit - relatively easy but beware of the crocs at boca paila - I kept away from the mangroves where they seemed to lurk -

Thanks for this. I've had a god look at Google earth, where are the best spots to go relative to the bridge?

Find the big croc and go on the opposite side

Caught my first ever bonefish (many years ago) from the flat on the right as you drive up to the bridge.

And the 2016 Nobel prize for physics goes to J.R. Hartley, who'd have thought a fly fisherman could re-write so many accepted laws Hidden Content

Caught my first DIY bonefish here too. Found the wade through the deeper channel part to get to it pretty exhilerating! Read lots about the crocs there in the weeks before I was there
