    Default Winters here!!

Left home this morning to go the fishery and the temperature showed 3degrees,great no windows to scrape on the car.Ariives at the gate and frost around, ground hard, checks the temp - 2 not good.

Looked at the lochs and ice,not much still plenty of water open and switched on the pumps and cleared all our main loch, then watched as the ice kept forming as daybreak crept in.Temp now is at a warm 0.

Thats it now winter is definately here.

Only good thing the pumps keep water open and fishing through winter time is usually very good for those who venture out for their fishing fix.

No doubt the black death are not far away either.

    Glen of Rothes trout fishery

With the arrival of the white stuff, the pumps are not on duty keeping water clear.Fishing has been constistant and buzzers and lures have both been working in lime and black. We will be closed on 25th,26th Dec and 1st and 2nd of Jan 2013 this year.At the moment of writing all lochs are free of any ice and there is always water open even in the hardest of frosts.

So if you looking for some water to fish and free of ice then the Glen is always open.

    Millbuies Trout fishery

With the temperatures down to winter normal,it is unlikely much fishing will get done on the lochs unless we have any rise .As the lochs are secluded it will tend to be alot colder and with no pumps ice is a problem. So it will be into next year when fishing will get under way again and we are looking forward to an exciting season at Millbuies after its first year which has been a great success and many anglers have enjoyed the sport here for the first time.
Next year we will see a couple of changes at millbuies. All bookings will still be taken at the Glen, but keys will be given out at Millbuies By a member of staff at the office in the car park shed which has all been decorated for the new season.Payment will be made there with flies etc available in the office and will save anglers coming to the Glen for keys.It is important to point out that boats MUST be booked prior to going out.

We received a decent covering of snow last night but the water remained open and ice free on the main loch and only the small loch had some ice on it.The sky this morning looks still full of snow even though the forecast said it was going to clear up during the day.
temperature outside is 1 degree,up from zero at 7am on opening.

Well how lucky are we? One cormorant arrived Monday and thursday we were so lucky to have 2.Soon it will be four.Great to see them back again.

great sport for the dogs they just love to chase them but sadly the dogs cant fly no matter how they try so its a bit unfair.

    All water clear here John.

Just send them up Ill make sure they get a feed.

Breaking is is a bad thing it just makes it thicker as the broken stuff welds to the new ice and becomes twice as thick and stays longer than it would just left.
