“Goldenloch”
September
-08th - 2019, Week 34

So another strangely unconventional week, started on Monday past with a high wind, lots of waves then on Tuesday a complete turnaround with an East wind {not good for fishing here} a massive temperature drop {very welcomed} fish are obviously now much more active, another definite improvement is swallows, sand martins, swifts are all feeding on the loch, very actively, I am not saying its back to what it used to be like but it is a massive improvement, on the downside because the fishing has been so poor during June July and August the fish numbers in the loch have been static and not turning over, some of the fish have most definitely suffered with the heat, it may take a while for them to fully recover, Wednesday, flat calm blistering sunshine all day,{not good for fishing} but strangely was a good day and nobody left without a fish, Thursday, really misty not a breath of wind, fish rising and feeding everywhere, early anglers doing well, the day cleared to be an amazing day, I managed another big pull of weed, I have also noted that there is a new flush of weed growing just when I thought I had more or less got on top of this problem also in the evening a massive hatch of something loads of bats darting about, the jumping fish are not nearly as many as say a month ago, a few of these fish I know are infected with Argulus, we have always known that we have a light infestation and in the past worked on the principle that they would be caught and dispatched, however this year with the poor catches they have become more noticeable, to combat this we are removing all the loch side plant material as this is where they lay there eggs, Friday the fishing was superb Rod Thaw started early and was off early having caught several fish, John J Hunter 11 returned, Roger Geary 4 returned, Grant McGregor 15 returned, M Farrell 3 returned, Eric Gibson 3 returned plus many lost, A Cuthbert 4 returned, Sean Burger and Darin Taylor, having an away day had a lot of fun both on bank and Boat catching fish all day I think about 11 or 12 with family visits they just enjoyed the blistering sun that shone all day. Nice to have a report that is virtually normal, water clarity is really good, weed is not a problem, on ¾ of the loch the other ¼ is meant to have weed with my load of special Brown trout coming this week things are going to be a whole lot better see ya soon.
