Question Lake of Menteith

Planning to go up Highland way sometime around the 23rd of June and obivoulsy planning to do some fishing while I am there. I have always wanted to fish the Lake of Menteith for years and this time I am going to fish it, come what may, rain or shine.

So any suggestions on accomaodation (B&B), flies, methods.... would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi m8 menteith is a fantastic top of the water lake with beautiful surroundings enjoy your day but if possible get youself on Loch leven in kinross its fishing brilliant for the best brown trout in the UK and also steeped in history . PS both are boat only venues.

Default Trossachs

I would have said the lake goes under the trossachs
Stirlingshire?

(mini highlands)

Get yourself up to Caithness or at least up to
Sutherland!!!!

Hi, just to let you know there is a scottish water charity comp on the 25th and practice on the 24th. I think all boats are booked on the 25th not sure about the other days. Thought I'd better let you know.

There is accommodation in Aberfoyle, but again it may be a bit tied up on the 24th and 25th June. There are some good B&B's around there but the Forth Inn has quite a few rooms and has a nice atmosphere and good food.

Good Luck

I'm up for the 24th and 25th - anyone know how its fishing? All advice greatly appreciated. What Flies do I need to tie??

Post Lake of Menteith

6 of us fished it over the Easter break. The lake was fishing well, especially around the far western corner and around the caged area. I wouldn't say one particular fly caught all the fish but takes were mostly on hoppers, crunchers, bob's bits, dabblers and soldier palmer etc etc. The fish were usually feeding on margins and just below surface and I must the say, Menteith rainbows fight like hell ! when they get hooked as if they were nuclearly charged.

Dont get me wrong we loved Menteith. The lake. The fish. The burger van ....everything about it and the whole set up but we caught a lot of jack pikes on the process and it seems there are far to many pikes in the lake at the moment.

I want Menteith to remain as a top trout fishing water and always be assocaited with this reputation.........and not as a Pike fishing venue.

Fished an evening session last night(22/6/12), it was raining up till 9ish and cold(11 deg in carpark).

Started of pulling lures along the malling shore/Roman Bay no touches no fish seen.

Moved to Heronry picked up 1 on UV cormorant.

Drifting from Kates Brae to Tod Hole had 2 and a few offers, on midge tip/washing line set up . Saw a few rising here too.

Finished up in front of the hotel, no touches.
