Is skelmorlie fishery still open for business? I tried phoning the place on a whim one day and I reckon I got the wrong number as the person didn't seem to know what I was talking about when I asked them about the fishery. I haven't been there for years but used to go all the time a while back. Anybody know if the place is still running?

Yip - its just round the corner from my house ! Still open but not very busy......very reasonable tho ....3.50 for 4hrs C&R and 5.00 for a 2 fish ticket.

I used to fish it fairly often - but it's really only trickle stocked (1 out 1 in style) . Was frozen over till recently.

It's never a place where you will hit a lot of fish but they are there and it can be good for top of the water sport.

I heard from some locals that back in the day you used to have to book in advance it was so popular

Best is just to go up and fish - James will appear spookily about 5mins after your start.

Ah right,

Thanks for solving that one for me steveo. I remember going to the place when it was busy and you often needed a booking to get on like you say. Sounds like its just ticking over. I hadn't heard anybody talking about it for years. Yeah James always arrived like that after he took over from Bruce??
Somebody had said they had an alarm system that was activated by pressure pads under the bank when you walked on it...Its more likely that James just sees you driving by I reckon.

Thanks again

Thumbs up Re: Skelmorlie Fishery, North Ayrshire

I paid a visit early Feb, a lot of the pond was iced over, but it did thaw out during the day. The views of the Clyde Estuary are second to none, wildlife is amazing.

Its been a few years since ive fished it but it was always a cracking water and really great value for money. As said before the scenery is absolutely stunning and i must fish it again when im back up the road in the summer.

So being new to this area despite fishing Middleton, New Haylie and Pinewood fisheries I went up and started to fish but before starting I checked the caravan to see if anyone was there and no body was, first time being at a fishery with no other anglers being there!
I noticed a phone number so I called that but no answer and sent a text just saying, 'came up to fish but can't see anyone, heard to just start fishing and you will appear so I can pay but if you don't I've put a tenner through your letter box.'
After a few casts and no activity seen on the top I see a blue car come up the mud path, James comes out and starts accusing me if being a poacher blah blah and it ends up with us being fine about it and we shake hands and I introduce myself but he decides its too late to fish anyways and I take that my signal to leave but he promised me I was not leaving on bad terms as I mentioned I would like to fish his water next week and he says that's fine. Left the tenner there despite only having 3 casts as a gesture of good will.
So a week later I return early at 10am to fish, James appears behind me and I ask for a catch and release ticket then he tells me that because of my actions the previous week I am now banned and he would like me to leave!!! I tell him ok that's fine, I don't think there's any trout in the water anyway and will be taking my money elsewhere to one of the several other great fisheries around here!!!

I can assure you it is, doesn't matter though... I don't think I'm missing out on much by going up there! Just would of been handy on occasion to fish for a couple of hours when I don't feel like going to a proper fishery for the full day as it's so close. All I can say to James is that you won't get any business running a fishery like that with so much competition about and it maybe explains a few things about the place.
