Only finished my second season, and even though it's been 2 years it makes me very sad to see all these fish killed, and even more sad to see that it could take over a decade to recover. Who knows what it's going to be like next season. Very sad.

Just read about it on WUF website. What a tragedy. I really hope that somebody's round bits get put in the vice over this. There could be serious implications over the coming years if this years breeding stocks are lost.

It might sound incredible but people would be amazed at just how many fish survive that sort of incident. There will be ditches and sidestreams or even field drains and fish will cluster around the fresh water and survive. I've seen it many, many times.

EA Wales if that is what they are still called, should have fish population data for the river, and once the incident has passed they should be able to do a follow-up survey to see what is left. This is the important bit. If the case goes to court the magistrates like to have facts and figures presented to them.

If it can be shown that based on the scientific evidence there are xx% fewer salmon, sea trout & brown trout at all life stages than there were at the time of the last survey, and back this up with body counts then there is no wriggle room for the opposition.

Tragic and an absolute disgrace. What are the EA / NRA saying or doing about this? This is where Fish Legal really show their worth and I rejoined the Angling Trust last year following a couple of years of my own complacency. I don't believe that we can rely on the EA to protect our fisheries properly so every angler should feel that it is their duty to join the Angling Trust.

No just different polluters in the spotlight. Mind you sometimes you'd think we were living in the dirty past.

Can you tell us, has the source of the polution now been identified and was it the result of an accident or negligence?

A few years ago some idiot poured half a cupful of a very nasty and now banned pesticide down the drain somewhere near Marlborough. This went through the STW and knocked out nearly all the inverts over a 10km stretch of the Kennet. All the local "Experts" were howling that the river was ruined for a generation.

Two days after the event I took the dogs for a run to one of our usual spots which was about 3km downstream of the STW. I parked by the bridge and looked over at the river. Trout were rising. So, not ALL the inverts had been hit.

Two years later no-one remembered that incident and the trout just carried on rising.
