Default Teifi sewin

Just rang the local hoping to offload some Llys Y Fran rainbow trout on them but , and I quote, "We're inundated with sewin from the coracles".

So, double grrrrr, river too low for running fish or fishing, coracles mopping them up in the tidal waters and stuck with eight bloody fish which me and my mate had hoped to flog!*

* At least they're there......or should I say "Were there."

The value to the economy along the valley if these fish had been allowed to run and attract attract anglers outweighs the pub-door value by an exponential amount, what a way to run a river.

somerset salmon will become famous soon enough

I feel your pain but just be thankful there are enough left to net.
You could be in parts of north west Scotland or Ireland where the hotels are full of cheap (farmed) salmon and there are no sea trout at all...

What a way to run any fishery

Sad state of affairs! Not only the likes of the Teifi are subjected to these antiquated methods of capturing fish, the same happens on the likes of the Towi & even more "modern" methods are being used in the estuaries of other South & West Wales rivers. Proposed compulsory catch & release for licenced rod anglers but no restrictions on historical heritage. Beggar's belief. Wake up those that are supposed to be in control!

So that's a cash deal at the backdoor

Hopefully that drop of rain will help get a few up the river for you.
If the coracles didn't get there first!

Have you seen any further upstream yet?
Showing in the Cleddau and the Nevern on the tidal reaches so the spate should have pulled a few in.
River conditions should be lovely by the morning, I'm sure a feel a sickness bug coming on and may have to phone in sick to tomorrow!!

The Teifi's in a muddy spate today and I have to leave the area for work in the morning - really bad timing but the fish must have taken this opportunity to run. Not particularly high water so it will probably clear in a couple of days.

Indeed, rainbow reared in sea cages, hence 'sea trout'. Had the same experience at Maze in Grosvenor Square.
