Emergering Flies , Adult Flies and Spent Flies - all in or on the surface film . Also Terrestials blown onto the water.
There are different tying styles to represent these .
All come under the term - Dry Fly - in my opinion.
Anglers can split hairs , impose ridiculous rules on themselves and...
As a private fishery , Hadden Estate can impose whatever rules they like. No issue there at all.
The problem was that some who fished according to that rule tried to dictate to others what a dry fly was/wasn't - and they got pretty sh1tty about it.
A certain few tried to bully and insult other...
No - a Klinkhamer was originally tied to represent an Emerging Caddis.
The Emerger style flies are fished to represent a fly hatching on the surface of the water , breaking through the surface film.
Different tying styles suggesting the same thing - a hatching fly.
This dry fly /emerger debate is the biggest load of horsersh1t I have ever heard in my life .
If you fish a fly which sits on or in the surface film - it is DRY FLY fishing.
We had a plonker on here years ago - RichardW - who actually gave the percentage of the fly which is over the surface of...
First evening out this year on my local Stillwater with Inishmackjames and we witnessed a massive hatch of Caenis. Thank God we had our Corrib Caenis patterns with us.
Flat calm and the trout would not come within casting distance of the boat .

I must invest in a water...
Thanks Jim - I am heading out fishing tomorow , weather permitting .I think I will delay my start time until late evening . Better to have 2 or 3 hours with possibly a good chance of a few fish than flog it all day and be totally fed up by the time the fish start to move.
I never took it that seriously - it was a weekend away with the Lads.
We had good fun - usually a good few pints were had.
No - never won it . I qualified for the final twice.
In one of the finals , I got a nice trout within 10 minutes of starting and I then proceeded to hook and lose 7 more...
Do you mean The World Cup on Lough Mask - held over the August BH each year.
I have fished that 3 or 4 times - last time was about 6 years ago.
I don't do compettitions anymore except for maybe the odd charity fundraiser type of thing.
He's a bit young for pints yet Mike :D
Actually - I said it to him about coming up with me for a boys weekend away when he turns 18.
His reponse was ' you'll probably be dead by then '.
Cheeky little sod.
I have fished Mask and Carra quite a few times but I must admit it is a few years since I have been on them. The last 4/5 years it has been all Corrib . I have a boat on Inishmacatreer Island on Corrib so thats where I go mostly. That allows me to fish the north and north east of Corrib -...
