Thank you for your kind words. Yes you are so right, there is something indescribable/primordial about moving water be it river or sea and the comforting effect it has on the soul. Paul.

Thanks Steven, yes your right. He was 93 and was getting weary of life as he was housebound by the time it happened. He'd been a farmer all his life so walking the the river with the ripening barley swaying in the wind and coveys of young partridges with him in my mind was very therapeutic for...

    Appleby Eden

Called in for a quick look on the Eden at Bolton Bridge on Mon afternoon on my way back across the A66 and it looked spot on, lots of Mayfly and fish taking them so decided on a visit today. Got a phone call at 4am to say my dad had passed away in hospital but it had been expected as he was on...

Had a walk along this beat today, intended fishing but it showed 5C on the car temp gauge so decided to save it until it warms up a bit! What a lovely bit of water with such easy access for us with dodgy knees and backs! I walked it with my wife and it was fabulous watching a kingfisher flashing...

Yes I did thank you. I have a heart condition and it's the only time it's ever been useful. It usually only costs me with travel insurance etc.

Hi Steven, yes it was good to meet Michael he seems like a nice guy. Lots of Hawthorns on the water at the sewage works until the wind swung around. I saw quite a few March Brown's also but I only saw one fish slash at one and that was it. I set off in a tee-shirt but ended up with a jacket on...

    Appleby Eden

Just back in from a few hours on the Eden. I fished the sewage works, it sounds awful but it's a lovely stretch of river. The air was thick with Hawthorns when I arrived and fish were taking them so it was an obvious choice of fly! I fished a detached foam bodied Hawthorn but the fish wouldn't...

    Appleby Eden again!

Just been drying my waders in the sunshine in the garden from my Eden trip the other day and this big fella crawled out of the gravel guard! Paul.

    New Vest required

The new Orvis pro vest for me, got mine with a money off voucher so not too bad. The more I wear it the more I realise how well its designed and its very comfortable to wear. The thing I like the most is nothing sticks out anywhere to catch an errant fly line or leader. Paul.

    Appleby Eden again!

Yes my thoughts too about the rain. It was nice to be out though and I didn't see a soul! Lots of LDO's today also but it was the amount of Grannom that struck me, hundreds of them but no interest from the trout. Paul.

    Appleby Eden again!

Back on the Eden today, lots of Grannom about but the only fish showing any interest were juvenile grayling splashing at them - even the egg laying females were being ignored! I was a bit surprised at the amount of algae growing in the shallows that were in full sunshine, it was like mid summer...

    Appleby Eden

It's stunning countryside and as you say delightful to walk - so unspoilt and long may it continue. Good luck with the guests, no rain forecast in the next 10 days which is a miracle for Cumbria and 15C!! Paul.

Just an add on, I'm really impressed with the variety of the fishing on the Eden with Appleby A. A. I am still a novice on the river but lucky enough to live close enough be able to spend time walking it if the weather is inclement . From open fields with long glides ending in riffles to near...

That's good to know about the key for the gate thank you. It was about 4.30 when I pulled into the car parking spot shown on the map and the gates were locked. Yes it was quite a long walk but I took my time, Im not sure I could do it fully togged up for fishing but it was a lovely walk along...

Yes it was further than I thought and I didn't realise how unfit I'd become but a large glass of Ardmore is helping the aches That bull sure is a big boy but he was very lame on a front leg so was quite subdued. Do you park at the top of the hill at the locked gates on the other...

    Appleby Eden

Went to fish the Eden today and parked at the bridge at Bolton. When I got out of the car it was freezing (cold downstream easterly wind) so decided just to have a recce instead and left my gear in the car. I walked down to Ousenstand bridge and back and saw 1 rise only. I saw half a dozen up...

Hi Jada, Thanks for the reply its much appreciated. Yes Loch Teacius is off Loch Sunart, a very beautiful and unspoilt area that I have fished many times over the years whilst staying at Laga Lodge. (I dabble on the dark side and sea fish too although now mainly from my own boat which is moored...

Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to fishing the Eden. My kind of fishing I think, wild fish that you have to work for but very satisfying when you fool one. Thanks for the offer Steven but don't think I'm allowed to pm until I have 15 posts. Paul.

    Eden

I've had a couple of walks along since the season opened but haven't seen anything moving yet though last week there was snow on the fell tops and the water was high and coloured. Paul.
