Thanks Andy, for such a detailed and thoughtful reply. I'll PM with another question.

Duchy of Cornwall Season Permit information

Does anyone know how and when (if buying a permit) you get detailed information and maps on the various beats on the 'Duchy of Cornwall Brown trout Season Permit'? I've been on the Westcountry Angling Passport website and it feels like smoke and mirrors. I don't necessarily expect them to...

    SOLD. Loop Evotec - Green

SOLD. I bought a couple of these in a rush of blood to the head, but they were both a bit too big for my 8ft 4wt. Sold the black one for £185.00 on eBay, but I just want my money back on this one. Unused, boxed etc. £150.00 delivered.

    Loop Cross SX

Extra discounts this weekend Sodahead. I just bought a Loop Q kit, as a budget saltwater outfit, for £236.00 - rod, reel, line and leader. Would have been rude not to buy it.

Loop Cross SW or others for a similar price.

Loop have a Black Friday sale (until Sunday, I think), so I bought a Loop Q kit... 9ft 7wt rod and 6-8# reel. Seemed like a £230.00 no-brainer, as a first saltwater outfit... it even comes with a pre-loaded 7# line and leader... just add flies!

Saw that, thanks. I think I prefer Loop to Loomis. I might start out with the Loop Q, which Trident reviewed and named their best budget 9ft 8wt SW rod - it's only £255.00.

He didn't say what it was going to be used for, but that would help. Sodahead?

Do you think an 8wt is an all-round better SW rod for the UK? That was my starting point, but as 7wt is a big jump from what I'm used to, I thought I'd go as light as possible (I can always over-line it). I can double haul a bit, but having not really needed it I'd have to practice - a lot!

Not sure what defines 'long'. I've mostly fished small rivers, dry fly, with 8ft 4wts, and my maximum with those rods is about 60ft without double hauling. Having read a bit more, I'm more inclined towards the MF though. I'd have thought working out where best to fish and when will be more...

    Autumn Nations Cup

Definitely... when you've won a world cup! :geek: Hope you're right about the general trajectory. It would be nice to win the WC in Paris.

    My Fishing Mate Whitehouse

I love Paul to bits, but I'd rather fish with Bob - he's almost guaranteed to catch fewer fish than me. :sneaky: The closest I've been to them was an evening at last year's Cheltenham Literature Festival.

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy with used kit, but I wouldn't buy anything made by Hardy and (I just checked) even a used Loomis NRX is more money. Out of interest, why do you suggest that the Loop Cross SW doesn't 'work'?

Edit: I've bought a new Loop rod and reel (for £230.00), but someone else might want info, so please don't let me stop you. Anyone got one or tried one? Never fly fished the sea before, but I'm looking very hard at the 9'6" 7# for Chichester Harbour and maybe Kimmeridge. I'll be wading only, no...

    Autumn Nations Cup

The current crop of players didn't play under Woodward; they really only have Lancaster to compare (most don't go back that far). I bet they'd swap a run of form, for 71% and a world cup winners medal. Eddie won't go down in history, Woodward will.

Our most successful coach? I take it you're too young to remember 2003. 👶 Success is winning the big one, not coming second. And on that, I actually think Eddie would agree.

    Autumn Nations Cup

Can't disagree. I should probably re-phrase what I meant... not very good at thinking on his feet, 'when things are not going his team's way'. But then that didn't happen much with Sarries. I guess I'm living in the past with England - hoping for 2000-2003 all over again.

    Autumn Nations Cup

^^^ Fair enough, but I still don't have to like the guy. Most of that England list is duplication. And as for Saracens, who wouldn't have come away with all those gongs, but you can put an asterisk against everything on the list.

    Autumn Nations Cup

I wish Eddie Jones would keep his big mouth shut before these games. His comments about Irish 'imports' were both hypocritical and embarrassing. My wife is Irish. With Jones at the helm and with Farrell's inability to think on his feet, let alone string a sentence together, I wouldn't have...
