Mono to fly line internal attachment

It was done for me about 10 years ago I suppose. With all this stuck in the house nonsense I am looking for things to do, so thought I would renew my leader.... I can't remember how it was done, because it was so long ago - but the leader comes out of the end of the fly line, and there is NO...

    Classic outfit!

One of these was my first ever boat, back in 1967 at the age of 7. This one is a bit different, it was an experimental example that was laying at Avon for years, unused and is the reason it is virtually unused and perfect. It dates from 1977 and instead of the loose bottom boards these are...

    Carsington ?

I have the chance to fish here - can anyone shed any light on what might work please? Yes, I am continuing to flog an almost dead horse. I fished Carsington last when it was brown trout only, so probably at least 15 years ago, possibly 20. Any help would be greatful.

    Southampton Boat Show

Going to be interesting this year with so many new developments. A little bird has told me that Selva, who produce all the castings for Torqueedo, have tied up with the Koreans to produce electric outboards, they also have the lightest outboard available, 2.5hp and I can pick it up on my little...

    Milford Haven

Anyone about on Wednesday evening for a chuck about? I have booked a bed at Broad Haven YHA for Tuesday and Wednesday nights... have waders, will try for a fish - a mackerel or garfish will do. I have never been here before, so no idea where to go, but hopefully someone will give me a few places...

    Saltwater Fly Festival

Anyone going to Cornwall for this fantastic event - now that WC-D is not involved anymore. I think Colin McCleod is doing his mulleting thing again. It isn't cheap at £90, well not fo rme anyway, but it is a superbly run event. I am trying to save up to go.

    Garmin Force trolling motor

First pictures of the new Garmin FORCE trolling motor, if I can work out how to load them! Operates on 36v or 24v with no loss in performance, in fact at 24v it produces the same thrust as the biggest 36v trolling motor currently available (Minn Kota Riptide 112 lbs thrust). The 50" leg...

    Orkney....

I have just been told I am doing a motorcycle rally in Orkney...be silly not to take a rod having gone that far. Any secret squirrel tips available please? Saltwater or fresh..... flounders on fly? Are there any bass up there? Seatrout will be past the best time I would think, but pollack if...

    I caught a bloody trout!

Ok, I'll admit it, I wasn't targetetting them. I was pike fishing with #10, 25lb tippet, 30lb wire and a 6" baitfish pattern on a 4/0. Blue trout about 4lbs hoofed it down. Maybe I should give up with the accepted methods! Trout don't read this forum do they? :fish2:

    Mayflies - flies to use?

OK folks. The mayflies are everywhere, they are dancing over the trees, they are also on the water with trout slurping at them... what flies do you use to imitate these huge insects? I am thinking that you are going to need some pretty huge flies, because a size 12 Klinkhamer isn't going to look...

I think fishing is over rated...

I don't know what it is, but I cannot do it anymore. I can cast fine, but I just cannot get to grips with how to decide what to put on the end that a trout will eat..... I am going to have another go on a club lake on Sunday, but I think it is a triumph of hope over experience. 10 years ago I...

    Is it still too early?

I had a motorcycle job down in the West Country, so having done 680 miles in the one day, I decided I needed a couple of days to myself, I had taken a rod with me. I have some fishing on the Plym and covered about 3 miles in total - I never even saw the dark shape of a spooked fish hurrying...

    Leaders and tippets

I have been told this is why I am not catching. 'Throw it all away and buy some new ones', were the words spoken to me. I thought I had bought good leaders and tippet material to match (Orvise Super Strong, 2x leaders and a spool of line to keep adding, in 6lb breaking strain). SO, if I am to...

    Night time?

Just thinking about how to get a trout on the end.... is fishing at night any better? how would you go about fishing for wild brown trout at night. Lake, not river. I have seen a few well known anglers talking about fishing after dark for wild brownies on the river......so would it work on a...

    Will I break my jinx?

Let's see if the mountain brown trout will oblige and allow me to break my jinx. Off on my little motorbike to a mountain tarn, going to be there for sunset and try not to break my ankle walking out in the dark! If you don't hear from me in 48 hours time, please ask the Mountain rescue to come...

    Fly Boxes?

I am going to have a sort out of my flies and try and get them into some semblance of order for what they are meant for...at the moment they are all muddled up. I have bought fly boxes in the past, supposedly reasonable quality, but they have fallen apart or seized up hinges within 2 years...

    North Country Trout

Heading to stay in an isolated YHA tomorrow, going by my little motorbike, the weather is set fair. Decided 'F*** it' I am taking a Mepps #1 fly with me and an 'egg beater' reel... see if I can actually catch me a trout. I shall leave the 'difficult to catch a fish with' tackle in the cupboard...

    It's official. I is cr4p.

I have to be the worst fly angler out there. Only person to blank so far this season at Foremark...but it isn't just this season. I'm not sure I shall bother going back now. I have yet to have a bite there. On the up side. I did get one take at Ogston last year and I have had another this...

Wild trout in high lakes / lochs

I fancy a trip away on my motorbike this year. Got some high lakes in mind, both Wales and SW Scotland..... any idea when it is worth making the effort? I'm thinking about water temperature and when the fish will be on the move again. I know the elevation is going to make it a good bit later...

Why do they show up now?

Two in two weeks! ******, it says I am not allowed to post pictures. Why not? I used to be able to. Anyway, close to 4lb brownie today - and one of 3lb-3.5lbs last time out. Come March, I won't be able to catch a single one! I am going to use the 8wt more often though - in 30mph wind it does...
