    Float Tube with Oars

My mate has the guideline drifter with oars and reckons they’re just another thing to get line caught on, as for propelling myself, I’ve been finding the dive boots and Apeks RK3 fins excellent.

    Fishing around Birmingham

A few rivers run through Brum and the surrounding area and some have decent trout in them. I’ve fancied trying them but haven’t got around to it yet.

    Vision scout 2.0 waders

I had the original Scouts and they were solid, changed to Koski Zips and they’re a bit leaky already. Might try Patagonia next time around.

Wild Trout and Grayling fishing 2021.

Nice one Gary, I enjoy my job but I’d rather be fishing 😂

Wild Trout and Grayling fishing 2021.

A few from that last two evenings, five days of long shifts now so happy to finish on a high for the week! Had a hell of a lot of fish over a pound, the blue winged olives are starting to appear now so the evening fishing will get better and better. The next two months are the creme for me!

River Rod - What would you recommend?

What do you think of the Ti5? I’m tempted by one for loch fishing.

    Your opinions on this?

It’s criminal what’s happening up the West. Lough Carra holds a special place for me and many anglers, there’s just nothing like it and they’ve managed to **** it up beyond belief. All due to greed, there should be half mile buffer zones around those loughs protecting them from agricultural run off.

River Rod - What would you recommend?

I think he wanted to refine the butt section a little when I last spoke to him but he said the action is squarely between the 8’ and 9’ P4 so it should be a perfect dry fly rod. I sent a radian off for work lately too and they decided to give me credit rather than repair so I may try the new...

    Your opinions on this?

Sadly Cressbrook and Ashford Hall stock like mad, I had one last week that must have been around 7-8lbs. Wild trout shouldn’t have to compete with such enormous fish! You can imagine my disappointment when I got the first glimpse of it. I believe Cressbrook have cut back though which is a start...

    Your opinions on this?

If it’s the stream I think it is then it definitely has a head of very good brownies year round. It’s a fishing paradise where Steven is and it doesn’t cost the Earth like it does down here. You also have the Clyde and Annan not much more than an hour away.

    Your opinions on this?

The Lathkill is a stunning river for sight fishing brownies but as a river it’s been manipulated by humans a hell of a lot, Philip White the ex keeper said it’s pretty much entirely artificial in spite of all the fish being wild. I’ve had some crackers from there though. The biggest below at...

River Rod - What would you recommend?

Haha I have my money down on his new 486 model. It’s my most used size and the way he describes it sounds sublime!

River Rod - What would you recommend?

I had the 9’ 3wt cult but sold it. I have a 9’ 5wt and a 7’6” 3wt that are both sublime! I regret selling the 9’ 3wt but I’ve been on the look out for the 9’6” 4wt as my uncle uses one and prefers it to his circa, it’s a brilliant dry fly rod but the only drawback is the fact it’s a three piece.

    Whats my Sage SLT Worth

I’ve been watching ebay for a 486 for a while, the odd one pops up but they usually want silly money.

    Orvis on the High Street

Think Peter has had a few personal issues in the last year or two so I’m not sure he’s completely focused on the shop. The day his door closes for good will be a sad one though! I haven’t stepped foot in his shop since the start of the pandemic so I do see where you’re coming from for sure.

    Orvis on the High Street

They used to run a discount for local fishing club members too but they said corporate done away with that as well. It’s a nice shop for sure and the people that work there are lovely but I’d rather support Peter around the corner.

Wild Trout and Grayling fishing 2021.

Here are a few from that last two sessions, sadly my mayfly fishing was cut short to spend a week in Wales but I’ll revisit the two big fish I lost through the summer. Apologies for the upside down images, doing this off my iPhone and I can’t be bothered editing! 😂

Rainbow Trout: Carl Beck (River Lune trib)

I think the Wye fish originate from the McCloud river in California so they are a spring spawning redband variety over the typical Shasta seen in stocked fisheries.

Rainbow Trout: Carl Beck (River Lune trib)

Derbyshire Wye, they’re also present in the lower and mid Lathkill and the Derwent for a few miles either direction of the confluence with the Wye. According to some there are breeding rainbows in the River Noe now too, which is another tributary of the Derwent, I’ve seen pictures but whether...
