    What makes us happy..

I'd suggest that children are less inhibited and don't worry about offending somebody by laughing at them. Also, children are naturally happy creatures.

    Good tackle/equipment for older men

I'll second the idea of lighter, more up to date kit might be an option. See what he is using now and consider going down in length and weight. Yes, there will be some compromise associated with it, but does that really matter in the long run?

I can recommend the GTS 500. I have and use one in with 6 Wt lines. It is very good value for the money.

    Advice on equipment for beginners

I personally like Greys' reels and their lines, but that's me. Others will suggest Airflo. Again, that's a personal choice.

    Advice on equipment for beginners

As others have replied, a 6 Wt rod. I prefer the 9 ft as also mentioned. There are so many bargains for new kit from online dealers that there is no reason to 'settle' for second hand. Have a look at Glasgow Angling Centre's, Uttings', and John Norris' websites for a start. to see what's on...

    Advice on equipment for beginners

Given what you've said so far a 6# rod reel and lines (floating & intermediate at least) would be my first suggestion. Which brand is a subjective choice with each of us having a preference. Ones budget is a factor to consider as well. As for flies, look for selections that suit haw you expect...

    Fishing tackle retail is booming!

Along with that, I wonder how much stuff isn't stuck on Evergreen, but Evergreen gets the blame for it not showing up anyway.

    Sentient Bill

You dishonestly resorted to taking what I have said out of context in an effort to make it seem that I said Alan and I agreed with you at the beginning of the above post. What I said was, 'You continually demand that we -- Alan and I admit and declare that fishing is harmful and therefore...
