Out today for the first time, for the morning, this season on the little Cheshire river, after having been on the big Welsh river several times. Totally different.
What a delight to be using the 6'9" Echo glass rod, little delicate casts under overhanging trees. Was surprised how many trees in...
Whenever I am out on a boat or bank, cold and wet and missing fish, getting tangles, I tell myself that I know some who would love to be here cold and wet, missing fish, getting tangles, but are sadly unable to do so.
Another vote for fibreglass, or at least modern ones. On my small river I use an Echo 6'9" 3 wt, got rid of a carbon rod for it. Lovely to cast, roll cast and side cast, nice and soft and don't ping too many fish off.
Just wish I was out using it today but the river still rising, may be few...
Funny 'ol day today.
Conditions were fine: river dropping after rising from recent low level, clear with a slight tinge, high cloud overhead and upstream gentle wind.
Went to a stretch I've visited recently and had many small fish, baby grayling and trout/salmon parr literally by the dozen...
How do you do that lol

No I don't think it is like a bung. The idea of the bubble, filled with water, was to propel the fly on a spinning rod. beyond the bubble would be maybe 6 feet of leader with the fly. It was basically a casting weight.
I know this is not the right thread, but as the river is out of action I went to the local trout lake, and boy was that fish wild when the tasty morsel bit him in the lip and dragged him towards the bank. His antics showed he was really wild.
Also off topic, tried my new (s/h) Sage Pulse, lovely...
An advert in the weekend Torygraph for Cotswold Country shop in Cirencester says that apart from clothing and shooting they do fishing tackle, rods and reels.
Anyone know the shop? any good for general supplies?
Got a proper trout at last.
Went out this morning to a stretch I do not know (fished it mid winter maybe 4 years ago, was then 3 feet higher). Nothing for a while on spiders. Ptn often successful here, put on one on the spider rig point with a red collar having seen it recommended in a magazine...
