    Flexothene

The question , in the general fishing discussion, was - " #1 Anybody used flexothene waterproofs? If so, what’s your opinion on them please?!! Gore Tex doesn’t really do it for me unfortunately.....I find it leaks eventually and is cold when wet. Admittedly I haven’t tried the three or four...

    Flexothene

I never fish in a boat myself, just row them. I do all my fishing walking about. "Grow up" ?? I have spent my working life and angling lifetime in one of the wetter and wilder parts of the UK. I like to stay dry. But each to their own.

Not a proper blow if rain is not blowing up your back.

I like to fish in wild weather. The bib and brace combined with full length jacket, or shooting smock with flap down over one`s @rse, stops the rain blowing up my coat soaking me. No need for braces to keep the overtrousers up either.

    Flexothene

I wear the bib and brace all the time, for work (farming), shooting (wildfowling on the foreshore), ghillie work (sitting on my arse in a boat) and my own fishing. Almost every one I have had over the last 15(?) has been dry out of the bag, but they will leak after constant walking or...

    Muir Burn

Interesting guys, thanks. I asked because the serious fire on Lewis on Saturday as started by a large scale crofter. He had called the local fire chief and estate factor before he started. The fire guy had said the day before that the weather meant moor burn was well dodgy. A lot of fire men...

I was wondering if it was akin to the agricultural code of good practice.

Is the muirburn code guidance, or law?

    Muir Burn

Aye, it was dry(mostly) here on Lewis for a few weeks. Even in winter, sun and a good wind dries the ground out quickly. This year was unusual in that the ground was frozen hen the pyromaniacs went to work. All the fires were set in the traditional crofter manner. Set a few fires going and go...

    Fish farming regs relaxed

Any different from the treatment of the fish in this video as they come aboard?

    My Scottish Char Appeal

They can be caught in a Lewis river too. Sadly, there are still people that targer char with nets, including in the roadside loch as well as others.

    River Lugg

Have I suddenly started interpreting maps and google earth wrong? I thought the third arch and the bend upstream has been worked on.

    River Lugg

What did that stretch of river look like 40 years ago, before the lack of maintenance allowed the third arch to block up, along with the resulting narrowing of the channel upstream of the bridge? Had there been an unnatural build up of gravel and silt upstream of the bridge due to the blocking...

    River Lugg

The last sentence is conjecture, yes? I asked for a post flood picture to try and make an informed opinion on whether the lovely newly sculptured riverbank was just eroding into the river or not. If not, all is good.

    River Lugg

Indeed. So we should all approve of the effort to restore the river flow and width of river channel to what it was before the bridge was put in place.
