    Balancing Vision Mag 10ft 3/4

Hi All, I've bought this rod second hand as my general purpose rod for dries, upstream nymphing and a little euro nymphing. I'm out of the country at the moment so haven't had a chance to give it a wiggle. Can anyone recommend a reel weight for balancing the rod, I currently use a very...

    Partridge Sea Trout Hooks Help??

John Gray in his 'Sea Trout Nights' book lists these as alternatives: https://www.anglerscorner.co.uk/mustad-3261-np-bn-aberdeen-hooks.html

    Seatrout rod

Thank you! Yes I was wondering if that would be the case. So it's down to Elevation or Onki (I have been told the RS2 is a bit aggressive). I'm leaning towards the Elevation as it looks like the Onki has different characteristics in different lengths / weights so I'm not 100% what to expect from...

    Seatrout rod

Yes that's exactly the balancing act. I want to be able to pick up and push out the line with a large fly without false casting, but without it being too stiff in the tip and being forgiving enough to not be a challenge when your timing isn't spot on during a dark night.

    Seatrout rod

To keep this thread going (sorry!) I'm after a new sea trout rod as my existing rod is a bit too sloppy. I use a very forgiving GR30. It struggles with large wake flies and I find myself false casting more than I would like. I would like something lightweight with a faster action and a little...

    Testwood

Hi All, I fished the Test last week near stockbridge, as a guest of a friend who has a rod in the forces angling club (cheap fishing on the Test, it does exist!). Terrible weather but I caught 2 trout and a grayling, all 14". The trout are stocked, but when I got home I realised one is very...

    River Teign stunner!

Hi all, We (my dad and I) are thinking about fishing the Teign next week, conditions look marginally better. Does anyone have any advice on which beat, and ideally which pools, we should focus on that are open to day (night!) ticket anglers? Given the low water i was thinking the lower Teign...

    Catterick on Swale

My brother lives locally... I might have to go see him soon if the fishing is that good!

Cornwall next week - sea trout

No luck at Butterwell. The water was up but clear, there were fish there but not in huge numbers. The new owners, who are excellent, warned us that things would be difficult given the water height and so it proved. 2 of us fished until half 2, we lost 3 fish and had a couple more hits. Fun...

Cornwall next week - sea trout

Re: Cornwall next week - sea troutI Apologies for taking so long to update. I did fish the free water, beneath the road bridge, along with lanhydrock. On arriving in lostwithiel with a car full of luggage i stopped on my way to polruan to check on the pool beneath the road bridge. I got the...

Cornwall next week - sea trout

Many thanks both, much appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on. I'm hoping for at least 1 night on both the Fowey and Camel, although I may sneak a third on the Fowey as it is so close to where I'm staying. I'll be doing early mornings lure fishing for bass, so I'm going to be burning...

Cornwall next week - sea trout

Thanks again! Apparently you can get Lanhydrock day tickets from the national trust, I do worry that this might be a bit inaccessible for fly fishing though. I'm certainly going to give the free water a go but worry about disturbance, would like so good day ticket water to fall back on...

Cornwall next week - sea trout

Thanks Pearcy, i really would not have thought to try the free water. I've struggled finding good fly water, Wainsford and Rivermead are booked up and it looks like the angling clubs have heavily wooden water, is that correct? Cheers, Tom

Cornwall next week - sea trout

Hi All, I'm heading down to the Fowey area next week and was planning to get a night's sea trout fishing in. The Fowey and Camel are both very accessible; can someone please suggest good day ticket water to maximise my chances. I have mastered the art of casting ok at night, but not...

Wychwood Drift 7' #3, better than River & Stream?

What a cracking fish! Thanks, I'm a big fan of the R&S, and like the little extra length. Unless someone raves about the Drift I'm more than happy to stick with this.

Wychwood Drift 7' #3, better than River & Stream?

Hello all, I just had my first outing with my new Wychwood river and stream rod (7'6" #3), I was very impressed with it until the second section from the tip shattered under no load whatsoever. It is obviously a flaw with the blank and the tackle shop has agreed to replace it, I now need to...

The dry fly expert / regular rod contact details

Hello all, I'm keen to purchase a WF3F line from the Dry Fly Expert but both the checkout function and his contact email address aren't working. I'm planning to fish early in April so am conscious I need to get hold of him sooner rather than later, does anyone have his contact details. If so...
