Flies for barbel and river carp

We catch mainly sharp tooth catfish out here and they go for anything, you might be casting for yellow's and end up with a barbel, they grow fairly big and you have a good chance of losing your rig if not equipped for them, out here any fly will catch barbel, Walkers Killer, Mrs. Simpson’s...

I use 110Ah Exide deep cycle solar system batt now for 7 years, when not in use I store it properly and charge often, here is the problem. Put whatever you have heard or been taught about “Deep Cycle” and “High Cycle” batteries out of your mind. Every lead-acid battery can be deeply discharged...

Does the moon have an effect on freshwater fish

The moon was clear in the sky, no cloud no temp drop, the only fish responding, which is not usual was the sharp tooth barbel, problem is, if you are not rigged for them, i.e. heavy gear, you loose your fly and tipped, barbel of 7kg up is not easy to handle on light gear, yet during the day the...

    Can Trout See Colour?

As a little boy my father use to say, gud the first trout you catch and choose a fly related to the dominant color in the fishes's stomach. I do not think fish see colors as we do, but relate it to the food source available to them at that time i.e. yellow or red, most insects tend to have some...

Typical Bok rugby, we have been playing physical rugby for 100 years, I'm glad we won, good game, nothing to choose between the last four teams, England have nothing to be ashamed of. Now lets see if Cheetahs can do something out there.

Yellow large and small mouth in the orange river RSA

I know of a stretch of water in the lower Orange river where large mouth(up to 22kg) and small mouth(up to 11kg) can be caught with fly and lure, the stretch of water is seldom visited by anglers as access to the river is limited due to the surrounding mountains.I have boats available that can...
