    Fly Fishing - Canal?

Canal fishing is great, especially if it is one that has clear water and isn't too wide. Roach and rudd on dries, or on the drop with tiny nymphs is great. It also removes the need for overhead casting as you can bow-and-arrow or roll cast the short distances. A long rod helps... You need to...

    Spain - Aragon - Zaragoza

Hello, hoping if the world gets back to some sort of normality to do a family holiday in Northern Spain next summer. Wondered if anyone had any recommendations for areas to stay with good fishing in close proximity? Thinking of within 1hr drive of Zaragoza. Happy to fish for anything but...

    Bone fish destination

No idea about the specifics of Covid restrictions but Guadeloupe is worth a look. It's tougher bonefishing than elsewhere but they are big, but spooky and only in small numbers. However there are permit around in the surf on the south coast back-reef flats. Again tough fishing, but I got a...

    Caribbean

Health warning: Second-hand info below gleaned from the internet while daydreaming at work... I've not been to the destinations you mention, but went to Guadeloupe at the start of the year which doesn't have much of a reputation as a flats venue and still saw bones and permit almost...

    Trip - Florida in March

Think there may be somewhere on the east end of Lower Matecumbe Key that rents kayaks. If you want to stand on one I'd rent a double kayak as you can usually perch in the middle to paddle and lots of space to keep fly line away from your kit. We stayed on Lower Matecumbe a few years back and...

    Wadding in the Seychelles islands

Hi Christian, this is my report from November 2016: https://www.flyfishing.co.uk/destination-fishing/351459-trip-report-mahe-seychelles.html#post2164677 This is a really useful blog from a guy who lived on Praslin a few years ago: Throwing Loops Also have a look at this site - it's mainly...

    Seychelles trip

Good times! I'm a bit jealous - first baby has meant no holidays of any type since Mahe! Are you staying at Wanita's place? Good luck with the fishing.

    And some dace too...

Indeed you are correct Lawrence, I hadn't considered that the title of the thread might be misconstrued as implying that all of them were dace! :)

    And some dace too...

Thought i'd start a new one for this - got the decent camera back so pics are a bit nicer! Another quick trip to the local leat in the sunshine, as keenly aware that the temperature was going to go through the floor tonight! Tenkara rod and mini-squirmy worm were the main tools... Started well...

    Backwater chub and perch

I think moving water helps a lot with both squirmies and perch. I have a canal running past my lounge window and have seen quite a few decent perch on the stretch over the years, but rarely fish it now as it always seems to be more blanks than success. The perch usually just stare at the fly...

    Backwater chub and perch

Hi Jerry, yes I have had some really busy sessions (including the ~1.5lb perch below) on this and some other stretches of free fishing. The flies are mainly mini-squirmy worms from Selectafly. Did a little tour to go and see family at Xmas and visited a few different venues and had first...

    Backwater chub and perch

A few quick photos from a couple of trips to a local mill leat. Most of it is 12in deep, but a squirmy worm run through the deeper pools produced plenty of chub to and the odd perch. Today was warm enough to see lots of chub up at the surface and some of the bigger 2lb+ fish cruising...

Trip report - Mahe , Seychelles

The first fish we saw was a little Lemon shark hunting mullet. Only saw little ones (often coming up to inspect my ankles...) as the locals consider them a delicacy... Huge numbers of small eagle rays too.

Trip report - Mahe , Seychelles

Yeah, that's right - pretty cheap with Sri Lankan if you are flexible on dates. They even give you a free hotel room and meal if you have layover of more than 8 hours at Colombo - they don't advertise it but you can email them and they sort it out!

Sure, it was here: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/13197685 Don't think the photos do it justice. Really nice place and Wanita is really friendly and helpful.

Trip report - Mahe , Seychelles

We just stayed on Mahe as we were doing it on a bit of a shoestring budget. Actually worked out very cheap as the owners of the place we were staying in also run a big game boat and they would give us fresh fish every evening! We were staying a couple of miles south of the airport around Pointe...

Trip report - Mahe , Seychelles

Hi, I have been a lurker on here for a long time - so I thought it was time to put something back. Just got back from the Seychelles and noticed before I went that there was little information on the main islands. Hope it helps someone else have a good holiday...! Had a great time staying...
