Thanks Roadrunner and Original Cormorant.
I went yesterday and it was really well run. Probably the worst day of the week to go with no wind and bright sunshine but still managed a few and missed quite a few pulls too but I had fun. I fell into the category of thinking it would be easy :).
Than you for the replies,
I have to admit I have found it quite a struggle down there this season and have grown disheartened with the place which seems to cater more and more for the any method fishermen. I even resorted to writing to them to express my concerns.
Maybe I should explore...
I agree with Parrot.
The bank fishing has got harder but if you follow his advice then you will catch.
The key words are "early morning" I fish it quite often and often go down for a 3 or 4 hour session in the morning usually in the corners of the dam at this time of year and very very rarely...
Hi been a few times this week.
Monday was excellent managed 12 from the bank in front of the playground caught on a small black viva. Missed a lot of takes too.
Tuesday same area but only 2 everyone I spoke to found the fishing hard, despite almost identical conditions to the previous day...
I have not found the need to have a boat yet the fish are very close in and have been getting takes about 15-20 feet out.
I have fished Bewl roughly once or twice a week. So far the fly that is out fishing all others for me is a small black cormorant. Fished with a very slow figure of 8...
Guys, I need your help.
The last 2 days have seen me manage to lose about 10 flies due to my leader snapping.
I am tying my droppers on with 3 turn water knots and have had one dropper snap off near the knot and 3 times now the whole leader from the top dropper snap. Twice it has been on a...
I fished Bewl the first 3 days of the season.
Opening day was amazing I had a lot of very good fish including 4 close to or possibly over 5lb's. I released all but one so only have that one fish to guide my estimates but that weighed 4 lb 12 oz
The next day was a bit trickier possibly down to...
Welcome back I fished Bewl a lot last year mostly C&R (don't like the taste of trout) and learnt a lot but by no means an expert.
If you ever fancy some company for a day down there just give me a shout.
I used UTC 140 thread perhaps a bit too much though. The hackle came from a packet marked cock hackles :) helpful huh?
I got the kit second hand lots of bits and bobs probably mostly very old and much I have no idea what it is or what to use it on. In fact I know it's old as some seals fur is...
Thank you for all the feedback. I tied these on Fulling Mill competition heavyweight so I assume that this coupled with the lack of hackle will make them not so buoyant.
I appreciate all the kind comments I will let you know if I manage to fool any trout when I go tomorrow.
I have just started tying my own flies and caught a couple on buzzers, mostly learning from trying the SbS on here and watching various videos on YouTube.
Today I have attempted to tie a few hoppers in readiness for my trip on Friday and would like some comments on how to improve my...
Brilliant thread, another newcomer struggling to get to grips with buzzer fishing, reading this has answered almost a lot of the questions I had.
Next trip I am determined not to take any of my lures which I usually resort too after a couple of hours of fruitless buzzer fishing.
May I ask when...
May I ask a silly question. I am new to tying and brought a bunch of materials from an auction. I want to tie some diawl bachs but the cock hackles I have seem to be very small and I find it hard to get any decent length ones to make a tail and throat.
Despite searching I am not sure what...
