Fishing from Grafham Dam Suspended and under threat !

I agree with everything said, we all need to respect others and take care when fishing. But the biggest problem I've personally witnessed is runners and cyclists who are trying to beat their personal best time for a lap of Grafham .....they carry on regardless and dont care about anyone else...

Fishing from Grafham Dam Suspended and under threat !

I've just been informed that as of 29th November there will be "No Fishing" from Grafham Dam. It seems a "walker" was caught in the face by an angler, so fishing will be suspended from the Dam - Anglian Water are asking for anglers comments by 20th December after which a statement will be made...

    Carbon Fibre Handles

I must admit, I'm still not 100% convinced, but as one of my Loomis handles is practically just tape and superglue then I think I'll give one a go. Ok it's going to look totally different but at the end of the day I view my competition rods are tools - if I don't like it it will be changed back

    Carbon Fibre Handles

Carbon fly rod handles are becoming more popular but I still have reservations, is it just another load of marketing hype from the tackle industry ?? Has anyone tried them ? Are they more sensitive ( than cork) as claimed? Do they last well, are they robust? Do they slip in your hand when...

    First tying vice

I've had lots of vices over the years, its like anything "try before you buy" and go with one that suits you. I currently use a Regal Medallion with Stainless Steel jaws, its serious money but faultless.... However of all the other vices ( Snowbee, Anvil, Scottie, Dynaking etc....that I've...

    Sinking lines!!

I disagree to a certain extent. Yes Tip Lines and the washing line method has become mainstream and pretty much everyone uses them now....often they are the first choice for anglers between June and October. But Di-7's and Di-8's are essential.... anyone who fishes matches or waters over 20ft...

    Sinking lines!!

Go on Ebay and get a Mill End in medium sink...they are great for the money... Contact the seller and ask for a medium sinker ( di3 at 3 inch per second) or fast intermediate 1.75 inch per second sink rate. Poly leaders in fast intermediate also turn your floater into a " midge tip" for about...

    Sid Knight

CLAG I can't remember exactly but id say your right - I'd have only got the info from T. Fisherman back then.👍👍 TH was an all round angler wasn't he...not just a fly Fisherman I distinctly do remember 1985 when Dave Train came up with the Cats Whisker at Ringstead Grange Trout Fishery again...

    Sid Knight

Not wishing to take the tread in a different direction . But......didn't Trevor Housby create the first pattern of this type or at least make it famous " the Lead Head".....Sid then tied, and copyrighted a very very similar pattern and called it " The Dog Nobbler" As such only Sid could sell...

    Canada

I'm not really interested in Salmon, just the trout, and was thinking about chromanoid time on the lakes and stillwaters.....hoping it would be a similar style to here. Bears hadn't even crossed my mind🤦‍♂️. A lot of research is needed....

    Fly tackle shops in midlands

Draycote Water tackle shops have plenty of Sage & Reddington rods that you can actually try for a day before you buy ( no obligation) Failing that Rutland or Grafham Water have good selection.

    Hook for Zonker/Mohicans

I use Fulling Mill Comp Heavyweight in sizes 6, 8 and 10 for Zonkers , Minkies, Hummungus's etc.... You want a thick wire hook that's strong and won't bend out when you're piling the pressure on a big fish by the weedbeds.

    Identifying a line

Some of the cheap ( seconds) Airflo lines are a bit rough and grainy on the outer coating, they often get sold off cheap at shows or on Ebay.... Do we have any more info....such as How old ( roughly) is the line ? 1, 3, 5, 7 ,10 years etc... Any idea where it came from ? Ebay- show etc...

    Identifying a line

Looks like an Airflo Sixth Sense Slow Glass to me. Right colour and sheen......if so it's an intermediate sinking at 0.5 inch per second... Can you take a photo of the label ( "attach to backing" or "reel end ") .....as that usually gives it away as the manufacturer's text is often...
