    Default Early winston serial numbers?

I did try to register in the winston forum, but it's not having it.

Anyone know when an IM6 8'6" # 4 with SN 42XX might have been built? I did a bit if googling but there seems to be lots to wade through, and quite a bit of it conflicting.

    Cheers

You are clearly a fair bit earlier but as to exact dates i have no idea.

Cant remember if i registered on the winston forum long time back but will give it a go and report back if successful.

Switch over to the N. American Forums, I'm sure you will get an answer on there.

    Good Luck

Sorry I was offline for a while, been a bit cane and spey (and both!) mad of late.
A serial number of 42xxx is after they moved to Twin Bridges, on the new WT formula even though it says IM6, and around the late 95 to 96 "vintage". So classic, though not vintage.
If you do get through to the WinForum, PM Rich Phaler, who's the unofficial resident Winston Historian on there, a great guy. His handle is phalerr.
He's maintained time/serial tables of most years, has most of the catalogues (I gave him the missing 2001 to plug the gap) of the new series, and has information on all the models.

    Cheers,
    Steve

WAIT... did you say 42XX, are you sure? I didn't think the IM6 was around with this serial number so early. What sort of tube does it have, the old green tube with the old "cup" insignia? One of those would have been by one of the founders, before Brackett and Morgan. The rods back then had bakelite seats and brown blanks.

Starting to get all hazy now, I've handed over the title of "Winston Anorak" to MrTrout!

It's not a factory rod, the serial number is written on the card that would have come with the blank.
