I've just been checking my new Chinese reel and although it's not been used yet I can't find anything wrong with it. I understand all the moral and ethical arguments (my niece lives in China) about buying stuff from over there, when I look at these reels I just feel that if they were made by any of the recognised manufacturers over here we would be paying 3 or 4 times the price, delivered to your door from China.

I,m distraught, the reel I paid 20.42 for a few weeks back is now 19.42, tempted to get another while the price is low ! last year I paid over 22:00.

Hi Stephen. Bought that fly reel BUT my pal is left handed, and the reel is set up for a right hander and there's no instruction boooklet and I don't know how to reverse the drag set up. Any ideas how to do this?

Hi David, remove the spool, on the back of the spool is a knurled nut, unscrew that, tip the bearing inside out, turn over, replace then screw nut back on and replace spool.
    Hey presto, now RHW.

Arf... When you carefully check at some Chinese products and you compare them to some sold by western tackle companies, you suddenly realize that apart from the logo and the price, there are not a lot of differences.

Exactly, the two I've bought are reckoned to be copies of the Wychwood Ionica which used to retail at something over 150. I don't profess to know if the innards are anything like the Ionica but for roughly 20 it's a no brainer.

I once stripped down the Ionica reel drag as it was sounding gritty.
Youd be amazed at what isnt in there, a stainless steel washer and a plastic one, probably the same in the unbranded ones.
Ive stripped a few drags over the years, for what we pay youd expect 24k gold, but its not the case at all.
Cork, plastic/Rulon/ stainless the biggest surprise I ever had was on a quite expensive Galvan Torque reel, talk about simple.
