If you make a rod yourself a 150 investment gets you a rod that's as good as anything out there. Takes a bit of time but to get to grips with the fundamentals, but it really is quite easy to do if you want true value for money. Bloke on ebay has some decent offers at the moment.

Mooching around GAC online last night and I noticed that the Stillwater Fuze reel (35) is actually a Maxcatch (or should I say Leichi) Tail reel (20-odd with a cheeky discount code.)

Oh, and I know it's very sweet of them to include a little free gift with their orders but man allive, I am drowning in their leader straighteners. And they're crap.

Bargains are rare at GAC I find. It makes you wonder what kind of mark up they'll make on the reels if they're buying in bulk from Maxcatch.

Probably ones to pay uk business rates, uk staff costs and uk rental rates without the benefits of state sponsored postage. At the moment maxcatch has a number of advantages over our retailers, which I doubt they can compete with.
GAC report at companies house makes interesting reading .

I'd been looking for a budget 9'-0" 4wt to use on stillwaters, when conditions allow.

Surprisingly couldn't find a budget 4wt, plenty of 4/5wts in the UK but not a lighter 4wt.

Anyway I took a punt and ordered a Black Star 4wt from Maxcatch, two weeks ago today.

It arrived this morning, had a quick flick in the garden, seems like it will do the job.

I forgot to put in the discount code but I did receive a "free" line.

Just received a 6ft 1# rod with a free fly line chucked in . I’ve fancied trying out a ultra lightweight rod for some of the really small overgrown streams I sometimes fish.

I now have two hundred of their dry fly hooks size 12 & 14 cluttering up my bin.
These are no better than a bent pin apart from the eye which seemed okay. They have not been hardened or tempered and are little better than of they were made of copper wire, they would certainly not hold a fish for long before they opened up.
