    Default Which Fly Line? (NRX)

from the amount of rods you've bought and moved on in a relatively short space of time, I'm guessing that you cant have used any one rod for long enough to get to grips with it, rather than not having found the perfect rod. Since you've tried so many rods, particularly ones touted as being 'high end' as well, and still not found one that suits, I'd question myself as to what the most obvious common denominator might be and address that issue first ?Your not suddenly going to pick up a magical rod and start casting on a sixpence at 30 yards and have trout crawling up your line - might be time to admit its possibly not the rod that isn't up to scratch (workmen, blame and tools springs to mind). Id say instead of wasting your money trialling rod after rod, re-direct your pennies to a good instructor who could possibly tell you why all these rods aren't working 'right' in your hands. If youve never found the perfect rod, how can you possibly know something is missing?? The fact that the next one on trial is Hardys most expensive says a lot in itself - there are still a few problems in life that cant just be solved by throwing money at them.
BTW - 5wt on the Tees is a tad overkill in my opinion unless your going to be throwing big flies into a head on wind

Your absolutely right Graeme, a lesson wouldn’t do me any harm at all.

Some rods I find too noodle like and others I find too stiff, I haven’t read as much into Actions of rods than I should of to be honest.

When I say something’s missing, I mean as in something that makes the Rod feel like it casts with ease, it could be my casting after all. I often ask when out on the River with friends on this forum how my casting is and they’re always very complimentary, wether they’re just being nice or not I don’t know, but I do ask if there being honest.

My latest purchase was a Hardy Demon Sintrix 9ft #4. I enjoyed the Rod but it felt like it took a lot of work to get the line out (Rio Gold WF4F).

I fish with a friend Chris off the forum here on the Tees and he has a Loop Cross S1 9ft #5, and it has abit of edge over me when the wind gets up and it seems to throw the 5wt line out with ease whilst I seem to struggle. I get what your saying though, I shouldn’t be blaming the Rods all the time but if I fell in love with a certain Rod then it would get a longer life in my hands, well, more than a couple of month anyway. LOL.

Sounds a lot to me like the rods you are choosing are probably just too fast actioned.

One rod I have which I find superb is my Hardy Sirrus Glass 7ft #3. Shame I can’t get a 9ft #5 in one of those!..
