    Default Alternative to Forty+

    Hi,

I have a very good old Airflo Forty+ clear intermediate. This line is brilliant and I do 60% of my lake fishing with it.
Im looking at buying another one but slower intermediate. My only 2 issues with that line are: the connection between the clear shooting head and the white running line is not as smooth as Id like, no drama here but if that can be improved somehow, the other issue I have is that the places I fish most dont have enough room for the back cast with the entire head out, which means when I shoot the connection between head and running line has to go through all the rings, which I feel significantly reduce the efficiency of my shoots...

So: is there an alternative to the Forty+ with a slightly shorter head (say 3-4meters shorter) and a better connection between head and running line? Has to be clear /transparent!

    Thanks

Sounds like you have the 40+ expert. Get the 40+ 'Easy distance' slow intermediate...head is around 33ft. Great line

It was/is called the 40+ extreme. And if buying the latest model they have fixed the joint problem.

Looks like only the fast intermediate is clear/transparent....

What is the difference between the mid glass and the slow inter... also I am not 100% sure these are clear /transparent ...

Mid glass is brown.Slow glass is translucent Light green. The Clear glass fell out of favour because of the solid mono core.Which Had memory problems.

    Thanks Jim,

Never had a memory problem with my transparent line, might have been lucky!

Would you happen to know the sink rate for the mid-glass and slow inter? Can’t find the info on Airflo’s website.

When you say translucent brown/green, do you mean translucent like a tinted nylon like maxima? I find my clear/transparent line doesn’t spook fish as much as my other lines no matter the colour, hence I would have preferred to stick to proper transparent...

Onnlylad has put up a chart with colour /sink rate.
I always had memory problems with lines with solid mono core, and i also found that clear/transparent lines lit up on sunny days,as well as acting like fibre optics if you had flouro coloured backing.and you had to keep them wet or they would not cast.(many anglers boat fishing used a wet towel in the bottom of the boat or a plastic bucket with some water in)

    Hi all

Is the Rio Outbound short the Rio equivalent to Airflo 40+?

    Is it better/equivalent/not as good?

Obvious disadvantage being you can get 2 new 40+ for the price of 1 Rio...

Have a look at both line profiles and look at reviews of folk who’ve used them .
