“The Goldenloch”

09-May-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 19.

Another crappy week, the weather has really upset the fishing this week, don’t get me wrong people are catching fish, however the best description would be that the fish are well and truly hunted down, so yesterday Saturday saw the regulars Rod Thaw and Dave Wilson out at 8am, the weather then wasn’t that bad but it was cold, Dave had three fish pretty quick and when I spoke with them at about 9 they were joined by Malcolm Brown and Peter from Dundee, that was when the wind started to pick up, the rest of the time for the four was picking up fish in all areas, then the rain started about 12, which made everything miserable, Dave and Rod had 12 each, the previous day Friday was not a good day, a bitter cold North East wind just put the fish down on the bottom, very few fish caught in the morning, Brian Kemp was picking up odd fish using his own buzzers and the Bentley Boys, A Cuthbert and Alec Morgan were doing well using Buzzers and small nymphs, as was Grant McGregor who actually only had 5, but lost loads, today when I spoke to Mike Farrell at that point he had 8 and one of them was a cracking brown trout. Ospreys this year are out in force, some days there are or must be 6 or 7, as they are frequently here, on Thursday last week they definitely caught and removed 8 fish, yesterday as my wee video in the rain will show one just appear from nowhere, these birds are getting very prolific and although fascinating to watch are annoying, at the right hand side of the loch beyond the third jetty I am slowly getting the work done on my latest wildlife area with one already established I am planning to sow wild flowers and plant the trees so generously donated, however work has been abandoned due to wet ground,
